Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. President Trump says he's reviewing a new Iranian proposal to end the war in the Middle east, but speaking with reporters Saturday, he expressed skepticism that it would be acceptable. He was he had rejected an earlier proposal this past week. Trump also criticized members of Congress who were calling for a vote to authorize the war with Iran as required by the War Powers Act.
Anthony Kuhn
The Democrats in Congress that pushed this, and probably a couple of Republicans, they're hurting our negotiating ability, which is infinite right now, and they shouldn't be doing it.

The US Is also warning shipping companies about possible sanctions if they pay Iran for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The makers of the abortion pill mifepristone have directly asked the Supreme Court to allow the drug to remain available through telemedicine. A federal appeals court in Louisiana ruled Friday that it must be prescribed in person, as NPR's Selena Simmons Duffin reports, this is the first time since Roe v. Wade was overturned that blue states that support abortion access have new restrictions.

Louisiana challenged the Food and Drug Administration over a rule that allows patients to be prescribed mifepristone through telemedicine. The state argued that remote access undermined their abortion ban. The fifth Circuit Court of Appeals agreed and issued a ruling to immediately put back a requirement that people go in person for the medication. That affects people all over the country, including in states that protect abortion access. The Reproductive Freedom Alliance, a coalition of 23 governors, wrote in a statement. We are taking immediate action to protect patients and providers in our states, and we will pursue every legislative, executive and legal avenue available. Selena Simmons duffin, NPR News.

Israel's military is warning residents of nine villages in southern Lebanon to evacuate. The warning came Saturday as Israeli airstrikes in the region killed at least seven people and wounded others. Israel's military also demolished parts of a Catholic convent, saying it has been used by Hezbollah militants to fire rockets at Israel. The Catholic Church denies those claims. This is NPR News. The Screen Actors Union has reached a tentative deal with major Hollywood studios. The just announced deal comes one month after the Writers Guild of America announced its own contract with movie producers. Both unions were involved in multi month strikes against the major studios just three years ago. The latest deal includes movies, scripted primetime, dramatic television, streaming content and new media. Many employees of NPR are represented by the SAG AFTRA Union. Golden Tempo has won the 152nd running of the Kentucky Derby in Louisville. Louisville Public Media's Giselle Rhoden reports.

Golden Tempo was nearly at the back of the pack for the entire race, which started off on a rough start with a scratch very early in the beginning from Great White, but that didn't matter for jockey Jose Ortiz. But along the final turn, Golden Tempo picked up speed and is now the 152nd Kentucky Derby champion. Golden Tempo's trainer, Sheree Deveaux, is the first female trainer ever to win the Kentucky Derby. For NPR News, I'm Gisele Rhoden in Louisville.

Cameron Young shot at 270 on Saturday to take a lead at the PGA Championship underway at Doral this weekend. He sits six strokes ahead of three golfers, including world number one Scotty Scheffler. Young is looking for his second win of the season and the third of his career on the PGA Tour. Sunday start has been moved up because of expected rainy weather. The San Diego Padres have reached an agreement to sell control of that team to an investor group led by Kwanzaa Jones and Jose Feliciano. That deal must still be approved, though, by Major League Baseball before it can take effect. I'm Dale Willman, NPR News.
