The U.S. and Iran launched fresh volleys after President Trump announced a new effort to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to ship traffic. NPR Shaky Northam it's hard to say exactly why Iran launched these attacks, but the timing, of course, suggests it has to do with the US Decision to launch this Project Freedom, you know, to try and open up the Strait of Hormuz. And as Greg says, the US Shooting down of some Iranian drones and missiles and attacking some smaller Iranian ships today. The UAE is an ally of the US and supports it in the war against Iran. Trump administration suing Minnesota to try to block the state's lawsuit against the fossil fuel industry NPR's Michael Copley reports on this latest effort by the administration to shield oil and gas companies from a wave of climate litigation.

The Justice Department says Minnesota should be barred from suing the fossil fuel industry over the impacts of climate change because it argues the federal government has sole authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. Minnesota's lawsuit, filed in 2020, alleges the fossil fuel industry misled people for decades about the dangers of burning fossil fuels. The state says it's already suffered billions in economic damage from rising temperatures. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said this new DOJ suit is meritless and should be dismissed. The oil and gas industry says the same for climate lawsuits like Minnesota's and that climate change is an issue for Congress to deal with, not the courts. Michael Copley, NPR News.

Tiltil, 60 kilometers north of Santiago, tops the list of 50 human origin sites with more than 100,000 tons of methane emitted per year, surpassing even industrial, industrial, oil and gas facilities elsewhere on the planet. The study, based on data from nearly 30 satellites, also identified another Chilean landfill among the 10 largest global emitters, highlighting the impact of waste management on the climate crisis. The report says the emissions sources release the amount of methane comparable to 24 million gas powered cars driven for one year. For NPR News, I'm John Bartlett in Santiago, Chile.
