Live from NPR News, I'm Giles Snyder. President Trump is pausing the US Military effort to guide commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump announced the decision on social media Tuesday, saying the pause is for a short period to give space to talks on an agreement to end the Iran war. The tone is ratcheting up again between the U.S. and European allies. NPR's Helena Beardsley reports that EU leaders said they reject President Trump's latest threat to raise tariffs on European car imports.

Analysts say Trump was likely reacting out of pique after the German chancellor's comments that Iran is humiliating the United States. But EU chief Ursula von der Leyen says a deal is a deal, talking about the trade deal already negotiated between the US and eu, French President Emmanuel Macron says given the current state of the world, the last thing allies should be doing is threatening to destabilize each other. He says Europe wants free and fair trade, but if Trump insists the EU will activate certain instruments, he's Talking about the EU's anti coercion measure, also known as the trade bazooka, which could be used to levy billions of dollars of tariffs on American imports to Europe. Hundreds of protesters marched the steps of the Tennessee Capitol as lawmakers gaveled in with signs that read no Jim Crow 2.0 and hands off my district. Tennessee NAACP President Gloria Sweetlove told the crowd that the move brings the state back to a time before the Voting Rights Act.

Republican lawmakers have voted to ban disruptive spectators during the special session. GOP leadership says the redistricting effort will reflect the will of the voters. This is npr. Tuesday's primary election in Ohio set up what is expected to be one of November's most high profile races. Former Senator Sherrod Brown won the Democratic nomination and will now attempt to unseat Republican Senator John Hustedt. Also, former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy will face a challenge for the governor's Office from Democrat Dr. Amy Acton. In Indiana, many of the Republican state senators who opposed a congressional redistricting plan backed by President Trump lost their primaries. Three passengers have died from an outbreak of hantavirus linked to a cruise ship anchored off the coast of West Africa in Piers. Gabriela Emmanuel reports.

Hantavirus is a rare but serious condition that typically spreads because of exposure to rodent, urine, fever, feces or saliva. But in a small number of cases, the virus can be transmitted between people. The who's Maria Van Kerkhoff spoke at a press conference Tuesday.

We do believe that there may be some human to human transmission that's happening among the really close contacts, the husband and wife, people who've shared cabins, et cetera.
