Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. India says Pakistan has struck sites across its western border and at least one man has been killed. The strikes came after India hit Pakistani army air bases overnight, including near the capital of Islamabad. While the death toll has so far been relatively low, fighting between the two nuclear armed rivals has not been this intense since they went to war in 1971. NPR's Dia Hadid reports from Mumbai.

So this is a clear message to Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin. Trump also repeated his desire for a 30 day ceasefire. Ukraine accepts this, Russia does not. So this clearly reflects the change in tone, but does it mean a change in U.S. policy?

Labor unions, nonprofits and local governments argued that Trump's efforts to restructure and dismantle the government without any authorization from Congress violate the constitution. The CDC confirms that the US has now surpassed 1,000 cases of measles for the first time in five years. But Bonnie Petrie of Texas Public Radio reports that the outbreak finally appears to be slowing.

Seven hundred of those cases have been in Texas alone, though the State added just 7 in its latest health department update and dropped two counties from its active outbreak list. A county is considered to be an inactive measles outbreak until it's been six weeks since its last new infection. Texas also has a handful of recent measles cases that can't be traced back to the West Texas outbreak. Since the outbreak started in January. 92 people have been hospitalized. Two children have died. The 10 week effort has stopped all food and other supplies from reaching the region's 2.3 million people. U.S. ambassador Mike Huckabee a new aid distribution system is being launched very soon, but he offered no details of that plan. Vaccines and antibodies that have been designed to protect babies from a serious respiratory illness seem to be working in the U.S. nPR's Ping Wong explains.

Over the winter, infants were 30 to 40% less likely to be hospitalized with illness caused by respiratory syncytial virus, or rsv. That's compared with pre Covid seasons. A big change last year was the widespread availability of a vaccine for expecting mothers and an antibody shot for infants, both designed to help protect babies from RSV. Between the two options, about 66% of babies last season were covered. This is according to a new paper from CDC published in their weekly report. RSV season typically starts in the fall, and the disease has been the leading cause of hospitalization in babies. The biggest decreases were among infants under two months old who are at the highest risk. Ping Huang, NPR News.
