In Washington, I'm Dan Ronan. The cruise ship whose passengers have been infected by the hantavirus arrived in Spain's Canary Islands, where the evacuations will take place. Terry Schultz reports. Several countries, plus the European Union, are sending planes to transport the people after they disembark.
C
World health organization chief Dr. Tedros Gabrisis is on the island of Tenerife to oversee the evacuation of remaining passengers from MV Hondias. Tedros thanked Spain for what he called an act of solidarity and moral duty in accepting the cruise ship's docking. He tried to allay fears about the possibility the deadly virus will spread during the transfer of passengers.
D
It's only when we support each other that we can respond more effectively to virus or to to outbreak like this, he says.
C
Every precaution has been taken. Three people have died and several others who left the ship already are infected, but no one still on board has tested positive. Belgium, Germany and France are among the countries sending planes to Tenerife to pick up their citizens. For NPR News, I'm Terry Schultz in Brussels.

Tennessee's Republican controlled legislature has redrawn the state's congressional districts. The move carves up the state's only black, only majority district in Memphis into three districts, ultimately moving more Democratic voters into rural Republican districts. Memphis resident Steve Fowler says the new congressional lines means he and longtime neighbors who live across the street from each other will now be represented by different members of Congress.
E
One of the weirdest thing is the fact here I sit on one side of my street and my neighbors across the street are in a different district. I mean, my bass player in my band is across the street and he's in a different district than me.

The redistricting plan comes just days after the supreme court, by a 6 to 3 vote, struck down a key section of the landmark Voting Rights act, which required maps to be drawn, not to discriminate against racial minorities. Israel continues carrying out the attacks aimed at Hezbollah targets despite a ceasefire. These strikes have killed a number of civilians. NPR's Jane Araf reports. The State Department says representatives from Israel and Lebanon will meet in Washington next week for two days of talks. Focus on ending the there.
F
The Israeli military says it targeted a Hezbollah weapons depot in the village of Tura in south Lebanon. It says it took care to minimize civilian casualties, but those known killed in the attack were three women, an elderly disabled man and a girl who were at home when the airstrike hit their three story building. Israel did not provide proof of the weapons depot claim it has intensified attacks lately ahead of talks expected in Washington next week with Lebanon. The militant group Hezbollah has responded to the Israeli attacks with strikes on Israeli military targets. Jain Araf and Peer News Beirut.

Scientists and lawmakers are pushing for stricter animal welfare regulations this following the deaths of dozens of sloths imported for a Sloth World attraction previously planned in Orlando. The attraction has been canceled, but many are hoping for the owners to face criminal charges. Molly Durig with Central Florid Public Media in Orlando reports.
H
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeyer says a criminal investigation is ongoing into Sloth World's owners. Two leading sloth scientists based in Costa Rica came to central Florida this week to meet with lawmakers and push for policy change following the news of dozens of animal deaths. Rebecca Cliff with the Sloth Conservation foundation says she's feeling inspired by the public support.
I
We feel very good about the fact that there is a criminal investigation ongoing and that it's been taken seriously.

The Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens recently took in 13 animals from sloth World. All arrived in poor condition and three have since died. For NPR News, I'm Molly Durig in Orlando.
