Iranian state media say Tehran's demands include an end to the blockade, reparations and sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's chokehold over the strait is fueling high gas prices. The Iran war likely to loom over. Trump's meeting this week with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. He is to leave for Beijing later today. Nonprofits suing the federal government over its decision to resurface and paint the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool before July 4th. NPR's Anastasia Siolkis reports. The Avesky Group is asking a federal judge to halt the project.

The Cultural Landscape foundation filed its lawsuit in a U.S. district Court in Washington, D.C. it's suing the National Park Service, the Department of the Interior and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum saying there was no federal review of the plans, which is mandated by by the National Historic Preservation Act. Last month, President Trump said the project would cost no more than $2 million. But the new York Times has reported that the project's final cost could be upwards of $13 million in a no bid contract. The Interior Department would not confirm the cost to npr, but said it was necessary to get the project done by the 4th of July. Anastasia Tilkas, NPR News.

After a Virginia court nullified a redistricting referendum that would have given Democrats favorable districts in the 2026 midterms, the state's Democrats are asking the U.S. supreme Court to pause that ruling. Jack Khalil of member station VPN reports.

Democrats in Virginia have been rushing to join an effort to counter a gerrymandering push President Trump started in July. Last month, voters approved the constitutional amendment that would lead to a map with a big advantage for Democrats. But Friday, the Supreme Court of Virginia ruled that the legislature didn't follow the state constitution's amendment process. Meanwhile, Republicans this week in Alabama, Louisiana and South Carolina are taking steps to redistrict at Trump's urging after the Supreme Court weakened protections for minority voters. The U.S. supreme Court has cleared the way for Alabama to pursue using a voting map that eliminates one of the state's two largely black congressional districts. Alabama had been under a court order to use two black districts, but asked the court to reconsider in light of the ruling that further limited the landmark Voting Rights Act. Alabama wants to instead use a map passed in 2023. This is NPR News. European Union has agreed on new sanctions that target Israeli settlers in the occupied west bank who have committed violence against Palestinians and leaders of Hamas. NPR's Ruth Sherlock reports.

The sanctions package that targets three settlers and four settler organizations had been repeatedly blocked by former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Hungary's new leader, Peter Magia, though not blocked the measure. Last week, the European Commission said the EU would spend 6 million euros on volunteer monitors and emergency responders to settle a violence in the occupied west bank after a sharp rise in attacks against Palestinians. Minister Keir Starmer, under renewed pressure to step down. Foreign ministerial aid stepped aside Monday, and more than 70 of Starmer's labour Party lawmakers publicly called for his resignation after Labor's poor showing in last week's elections. During a speech on Monday, Starmer urged Labor to stick with him, saying a party leadership contest would only bring chaos. Following Monday's rally on Wall street, shares in Asia mostly declined. Stocks in Tokyo advanced, but they were down In Hong Kong Syd in Shanghai, South Korea's benchmark closed down more than 1 1/2 percent on profit taking. Oil prices steady at around $104 per barrel.
