Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. Thousands of people gathered in Montgomery, Alabama, Saturday to mobilize support for voting rights in the US the rally was called to express concern about redistricting efforts across the country spearheaded by President Trump. Speaking at the rally, New Jersey Democratic Senator Cory Booker accused the Supreme Court of attacking the voting rights of black people in a recent ruling. And he said this isn't the first time it's happened.
Cory Booker
We saw it with Dred Scott. We saw it with Plessy versus Ferguson. We even saw it with Korematsu. But the solution in those days was not to sit back and agonize. It was to stand up and organize.

Venezuela says it sent a former government official and close ally of deposed leader Nicolas Maduro to the US to stand trial. American officials are accusing wealthy businessman Alex Saab of laundering hundreds of millions of dollars through government contract and through his close ties to the former president. NPR's Carrie Kahn has our reports.

Venezuela's migration agency said Saab's deportation was in response to his crimes that are, quote, public, notorious and widely reported. Saab is Colombian, but held top posts in Nicolas Maduro's government, including minister of Industry, where US prosecutors say he laundered up to $350 million through Housing and food programs. He was recently held in a US Prison until pardoned by former President Biden and sent back to Venezuela in a prisoner swap in 2023. It's believed Saab could be a witness in Maduro's pending US Drug trafficking trial. Saab's deportation comes as the current government attempts to appease Washington while also dealing with former regime hardliners still in the government. Kerry Khan, NPR News.

We also know that for this specific strain, we don't have vaccine, we don't have medicine.
Michael Kaloki

Artist Dara won the annual international singing extravaganza hosted this year in Vienna, Austria. As NPR's Chloe Veltman reports, the event is also facing major geopolitical concerns this year.

This is the first time Bulgaria has won Eurovision. Dara's banging anthem Bangaranga bested 24 other nations for the glitz microphone shaped trophy at the finals in Vienna. In his appraisal of his 10 favorite Eurovision 2026 songs, NPR critic Glenn Weldon called Bangaranga an insanely catchy bop and praised its deep, profound, abiding grooviness. Israel came in second after leading until the very last moment. Five countries Iceland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Spain pulled out of this year's event in protest over the decision to allow Israel to participate following its conduct during the war in Gaza.
