Gallerhine won the nomination by a more than 9 percentage point margin. It's another victory for Trump, who has worked to knock off many of his perceived foes in Congress. In his victory speech Tuesday night, Gallerin thanked the president.

In Georgia, two Trump backed candidates for governor are heading to a primary runoff over two others who had opposed the president's attempts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia, including Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. The Trump administration defending its plan for a $1.8 billion anti weaponization fund. NPR's Tom Dreisbach reports.

Trump administration officials say people who believe the government was weaponized against them should apply for taxpayer funded restitution through the Justice Department's upcoming anti weaponization fund. And officials would not rule out making payments to Trump supporters who violently assaulted police. During the January 6th attack on the Capitol, Vice President J.D. vance told reporters they would evaluate applications on a case by case basis.

The center has a school on site. San Diego Police Chief Scott Wall says 140 children were within 15ft of the suspects. He says Abdullah delayed the suspects and told staff to lock down the center. Mansoor Kaziha had worked at the center for 40 years.

The visit came after the Senate parliamentarian over the weekend said a proposal to pay for $1 billion in security additions to the White House campus could not be included in a bill currently before Congress. A fast spreading wildfire on Santa Rosa island off the coast of Santa Barbara has burned through a grove of endangered Torrey pines. The island is one of only two places in the world where the endangered species grows. The other is in San Diego. Mike Thune, a spokesperson for the National Park Service, wouldn't say how many trees have burned, but that the stand appears, quote, intact.

The observations from the firefighters on the ground is that that fire intensity was relatively low.

According to the National Park Service, the trees are vulnerable to extinction in the wild. The fire started late last week and is still burning. The cause is still under investigation. For NPR News, I'm Kendra Hanna from San Luis Obispo.
