In response to Trump's endorsement of Paxton, Talarico says that no matter his opponent, he's ultimately running against, quote, the billionaire mega donors in their corrupt political system. A May poll released by the Barbara Jordan Policy Research and Survey center at Texas Southern University shows Talarico tied or within a point of either Republican candidate. Talarico says he is unbothered by Trump's move because his movement is is to make Texas for working people and not about party politics. If Talarico wins in November, he'd be the first Democrat elected statewide in Texas in three decades. For NPR News, I'm Blaise Gainey in Austin.
