Franco Ordonez
He walked onto the stage to his campaign music and he delivered a very political speech. I mean, he tacked Biden. He touted how much he loves tariffs. And it was actually when he was talking about his tariff agenda when he stopped to say that he had another big announcement to deliver. And he told the crowd that he's doubling tariffs on foreign steel imports.
Giles Snyder
Trump said he plans to push the steel tariff to 50%, and he later posted on social media that the increased tariff would also apply to aluminum imports. Trump was in Pennsylvania to talk up an agreement between Japan's NIPP on steel and US Steel that he said would help keep jobs in the US Severe weather delayed President Trump's return to the White House last night. The weather kept Air Force One circling for an hour. Earlier in the day, another fatal tornado hit Kentucky, killing one person and injuring several others. From member station WEKU, John McGarry has more.

That's why there's no siren out there. And we had two homes that were just completely destroyed. I mean, blown away. And there's other buildings and houses after they have damaged, but not the severity of the two that were hit, I guess dead center, if you will.
Timothy Graves
Graveside's first responders from several area counties came to help. Two weeks ago, Another tornado killed 19 people in Laurel and Pulaski counties. For NPR news, I'm John McGarry.

President Trump has announced on social media that he's removing the director of the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery. Kim Sayet was the first woman to hold the position. As NPRC Elizabeth Blair reports, President Trump.

Says he's firing Sayet from her post because he claims she is highly partisan and a strong supporter of DEI, which he says is totally inappropriate for her position. 62% of the Smithsonian's budget comes from the federal government. In one of his executive orders, Trump claimed it had come under the influence of a divisive race centered ideology. Before joining the Smithsonian's national portrait gallery in 2013, Sayet held leadership positions for the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Trump has upended cultural institutions, including the Kennedy since taking office four months ago. He recently dismissed the Librarian of Congress. Carla Hayden. Elizabeth Blair, NPR News.

This is npr. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is warning about China, telling those gathered for this weekend's annual defense summit in Singapore that China is intimidating its neighbors and threatening Taiwan. He called on Indo Pacific allies to ramp up defense spending. The the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has removed the routine recommendation for kids to get Covid vaccines. The change contradicts advice from medical experts. As NPR's Ping Huang reports, the CDC.
Ping Huang
Vaccine schedule now reflects a directive announced Tuesday by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Previously, the CDC recommended that everyone 6 months and older get annual Covid vaccines. Now the vaccine schedule recommends Covid vaccines for kids through shared clinical decision making. That's if a doctor and patient decide that together that it makes sense. And there's no recommendation for pregnant women to get Covid vaccines. The changes contradict the advice of professional medical groups who continue to recommend Covid vaccines to children and pregnant women based on scientific evidence that shows they are safe and effective. Public health experts are alarmed by how the changes were made. The closed door process upends the public discussions and votes that have been a staple of the process for decades.
