Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jeanine herbst in Boulder, Colorado. Authorities say six people have been hospitalized, ages 67 to 88, after witnesses say a man used a makeshift flamethrower to launch a flammable device into a crowd that meets weekly at an outdoor mall in support of hostages held by Hamas and that he yelled Free Palestine as he did it. Mohammed Saver Solomon is in custody and was slightly injured. FBI Special Agent in Charge Mark Michael Dyk says this wasn't random.

It is clear that this is a targeted act of violence, and the FBI is investigating this as an act of terrorism.

Police say the area will remain closed tomorrow as the investigation continues. The White House economic team says President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to talk after Trump accused China of violating a trade agreement. The deal struck in Geneva in May reduced U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods from 145% down to 30%. And Pierre's Luke Garrett has more.

U.S. treasury Secretary Scott Besant says China is withholding critical rare earth metals. He tells CBS News that that's a violation of last month's agreement to lower tariffs and Give both countries 90 days to reach a trade deal.

Russia launched a missile strike on a training unit of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. NPR's Hanna Palamorenko reports from Kyiv that the attack killed 12 soldiers and wounded more than 60 others.
