In Washington, I'm Korva Coleman. Israel says it is continuing to strike targets deep inside Iran. The military strikes began overnight. NPR's Hadil Al Shalchi reports. Israel says it's attempting to destroy an Iranian project to build a nuclear weapon.
Hadil Al Shalchi
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel targeted Iran's main nuclear enrichment facility called Natanz, and Iran says that it did suffer damage. Both militaries also said that three top Iranian security chiefs were killed, including the Iranian military chief of staff, Mohammad Baghri. Israel's Foreign Ministry announced the move in an official statement with its embassies in Europe posting the statement on their websites. The statement read that as a result of this temporary closure of Israel's diplomatic missions worldwide, consular services will not be available to Israeli citizens abroad. It urged Israelis overseas to complete an online form updating their location. This the statement also warned Israelis abroad to avoid displaying national symbols in public, refrain from posting identifiable information or travel plans on social media, and avoid attending events linked to Israel. An immigrant wrongly deported from the United States to El Salvador months ago is due in court this hour. In the US the arraignment of Kilmar Abrego Garcia comes more than a month after the U.S. supreme Court ordered President Trump to facilitate his return. From member station wpln, Mariana Bacallau reports.
Mariana Bacallau
Prosecutors say that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a member of the MS.13 gang and that for the past 11 years he's been moving people without legal status from Texas to Maryland. Garcia's attorney has said he's skeptical of the charges, as his client's wrongful deportation has sparked criticism of the Trump administration's immigration policy. Garcia will be arraigned in Nashville because his charges stem from a 2022 traffic stop by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. For NPR News, I'm Mariana Bacallau in Nashville.

The passenger in seat 11A escaped from the emergency exit after the plane hit the medical college in the northwestern city of Ahmedabad. In a video shared by local media, he looks dazed as he walks out of the crash site. The survivor, British man Viswas Kumar Ramesh, is being treated in hospital. Indian officials are investigating the crash with the assistance of the US And UK but one aviation expert told NPR there's a culture of secrecy in the aviation industry, so problems aren't always disclosed when they happen. Another expert said says the crash was likely made worse because there's so much development around airports that violate safety rules. Indian regulators have not responded to those allegations.
