A federal judge issued an order yesterday blocking President Trump's deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles by But as CAP Radio's Laura Fitzgerald reports, a federal appeals court has already blocked that lower court order.

The federal order would have required that command over the National Guard in California be returned to Governor Gavin Newsom by 12pm on Friday. Within minutes of the order, the federal government filed an appeal. And hours later, the ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in California issued a stay upholding Trump's actions to deploy the National Guard despite Newsom's objections. A panel of appellate judges will consider the order in a hearing on June 17. For NPR News, I'm Laura Fitzgerald in San Francisco.
