Live from NPR News. In Washington, I'm Louise Schiavone. The US has been signaling progress toward a possible peace agreement with Iran. Even as Israel and Hezbollah traded fire this morning. President Trump called on the parties to stop their attacks. Iranian state media says a delegation of Qatari officials who've been key mediators is in Tehran to finalize details. Meanwhile, there's disagreement about what an end to the war would mean. NPR's Carrie Khan reports.

Officially, Israel, which was not part of the negotiations, says it supports a deal. But a source familiar with the details who isn't authorized to speak publicly tells NPR that Israel is unhappy. Among the reasons, the source says the plan would require Israel to end its campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon, and it doesn't give clear enough answers regarding the handling of Iran's enriched uranium. Conservative members of Iran's parliament are critical, too. One member said it subjugates Iran, which would become a colony of Americ. And the speaker of the parliament lashed out at the deal, suggesting the US can't be trusted to control Israel. He posted on social media just after an Israeli airstrike hit a Beirut suburb on Sunday. Carrie Khan, NPR News, Tel Aviv.

Republican Senator Mitch McConnell is in the hospital, according to a statement from an aide to NPR. The former Senate Republican leader was admitted this morning. NPR's Eric McDaniel has the latest.

The 84 year old senator has suffered regular health challenges in recent years and often moves about the Capitol in a wheelchair. In 2023, McConnell froze and appeared unable to speak for nearly 30 seconds during his weekly press conference as leader. He also suffered a series of falls, including one that resulted in a concussion and nearly six week absence from the Senate. McConnell's always appeared to have a somewhat unsteady gait. A childhood bout of polio left him with a partially paralyzed leg. He announced in 2024 he'd step down from leadership and in 2025 that he'd not seek election to another six year term in office after more than four decades. McConnell's time in the Senate is set to conclude at the end of this year. Eric McDaniel, NPR News, Washington.

The Federal Reserve meets this week to discuss interest rates after May's high inflation figures. NPR's Stephen Basarha reports.

President Trump made it clear before nominating Kevin Warsh that he wants the Fed to cut interest rates, but when policymakers meet Tuesday and Wednesday, they are expected to keep rates steady. May's strong job report lessened the argument that a cut is needed. Ma's consumer price Index puts more pressure on the Fed to raise rates at some point after prices rose 4.2% over the last 12 months. Investors will watch closely what war says for signs about the Fed's future interest rate plans Tuesday. We'll also provide the latest on home construction for May after the market slowed down in April. New home starts were down 9% in April from a month earlier. Stephen Messaha, NPR News.

This is npr. Missouri State Highway Patrol says a plane that was taking people up to skydive over Butler, Missouri, crashed mid flight, burst into flames, killing all 12 people aboard. The crash occurred late this morning near the Butler Memorial Airport. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. Steven Spielberg's sci fi thriller Disclosure Day is beaming up a lot of cash this weekend. NPR's Bob Mondello has details.

Disclosure Day opened to the whole world all at once and in three days racked up ticket sales of $93 million, about 44 million of it in North America. That's Spielberg's best start for a film that wasn't a sequel. Also performing well, the low budget thriller Obsession, which has now had four consecutive holdover weeks with higher ticket sales than its opening. Unheard of for horror films, Obsession has taken in more than a quarter of a billion dollars worldwide, about 300 times what it cost to make. Bob Mondello, NPR News.

Chinese nationals with something to say to Taiwan's intelligence agency will soon have a secure channel to do it on. Taiwan's National Security Bureau says the online platform will be a place where various kinds of intelligence information can be shared. Taiwan says other nations do it, including China, which has said it launched an online platform to encourage reporting of Taiwan independence activities. I'm Louise Schiavone, NPR News, Washington.
