In Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston. The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of fuel producers and industry groups in their effort to challenge California's vehicle emission standards. The decision revives a lawsuit lawsuit that could undermine the state's authority to set its own stricter rules around tailpipe emissions and electric vehicle requirements. President Trump signed a resolution to revoke the state's electric vehicle mandates at the White House this month. The conflict between Israel and Iran is entering its second week with no signs of tensions easing. NPR's Jana Raf reports that Tehran says the conflict extends beyond its nuclear program.

The an advisor to the supreme leader, his name is Ali Larajani, said the issue wasn't just nuclear weapons, as Israel has stated, it's an attempt to dominate Iran. And regarding those threats against Khamenei, Iran's politically powerful Guardian Council lashed out at Trump. It pointed out that the supreme leader is a revered religious leader outside as well as Inside Iran.

That's NPR's Jana Rapp reporting. European foreign ministers are holding talks with Iran's top diplomat today in Geneva in an attempt to quell tensions. Pro Palestinian activists have posted video to social media of themselves breaking into a British Air Force base and vandalizing military aircraft. NPR's Lauren Frere reports from London.

Shaky video shows a pro Palestinian activist on what appears to be an electric scooter approaching a Royal Air Force plane on the tarmac in the dark. A group called Palestine Action says it broke into an RAF base, repurposed fire extinguishers to spray red paint paint on aircraft and also caused further damage with crowbars. In a statement, Prime Minister Keir Starmer calls it an act of vandalism. That's disgraceful. The group says his government, though, is complicit with, quote, mass murder and genocide in Gaza. Last year, Starmer suspended some arms exports to Israel, but British aircraft still fly reconnaissance flights over Gaza and assist the Israeli military. Lauren Fryer, NPR News, London.

A dangerous heat wave is building across the central US with temperatures expected to reach the triple digits in parts of the plains today. Brian Jackson is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. He says some areas could break records as the heat wave stretches into next week.
Brian Jackson
This is what we consider a heat dome, and it's going to become pretty stationary. So Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, next week it's really going to be the same type of weather with increasing heat through that time.

Officials are urging people to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities. Stocks are trading mixed on Wall Street. The dow was up 16 points, the NASDAQ down 149. This is NPR. The Los Angeles Dodgers say they prevented immigration enforcement agents from entering their stadium yesterday. The major league team says ICE agents were asked to leave after arriving at a parking lot near one of the stadium's entry gates. Homeland Security officials say it was Customs and Border Protection agents who were in the parking only briefly and not due to any enforcement operation. Hundreds of Orthodox Christian pilgrims descended on a tiny Alaska native community this week. Samantha Watson with member station KYUK reports. They took part in a ceremony to canonize the first ever Yupik saint, Saint Olga of Alaska.

Olga Michael, a midwife and healer from the community of Cuithla, who passed away in 1979, already held a saint like status for many during her life. But in an all day service held Thursday, St. Olga officially became the first indigenous female saint in the Orthodox Church in America. Pilgrims came from across Alaska and the world to witness the canonization in the remote Kuskokwim river community of roughly 800 people. In sweltering heat, hundreds filed through the St Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church to pay their respects to St Olga's relics, which were exhumed by the Orthodox church last November. Now St Olga will have her own feast day and place in Orthodox liturgical text. For NPR News, I'm Samantha Watson in Queethlook.
