Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Shae Stephens. U.S. intelligence officials estimate that the U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites say significantly damaged but did not destroy those facilities. Tupa People familiar with a new intelligence report on the matter say the US Strikes have likely set back Iran's nuclear program by a few months. White House officials are calling the early assessment flat out wrong. Talk of a cease fire between Israel and Iran helped push oil prices down $4 a barrel on Tuesday. But NPR's Camilla Dominoski reports that the price drop started well before any talk of a truce.

Oil analysts and traders are increasingly conf that the Strait of Hormuz is not likely to be closed to tanker traffic. Susan Bell is with Rystad Energy.

That the markets have made the call that I don't want to say the conflict is over, but the risk of the conflict is much lower now.
Camilla Domonoski
Meanwhile, the world was already awash in too much oil anyway. Supply is outstripping demand. And unlike in decades past, the US Is the world's number one producer, which reduces dependence on the Middle east and means conflicts like this don't prompt as extreme a market response as they once would. The Trump administration's effort to withhold funding for electric vehicle infrastructure has suffered a setback. NPR's Jael Snyder reports that a federal judge in Seattle is ordering the Transportation Department to release the money.
Jael Snyder
This case goes back to February, when the Transportation Department decided to suspend the EV infrastructure program. Sixteen states sued, and now a federal judge in Seattle is granted a preliminary injunction, temporarily blocking the Trump administration from withholding congressionally approved funding for electric vehicle charging stations in more than a dozen states.

NPR's Giles Snyder. Civil liberties groups plan to challenge a Texas requirement that a copy of the Ten Commandments be posted in all public school classrooms. From Houston Public Media, Andrew Schneider reports that the plaintiffs include groups that won a battle over a similar law in Louisiana.
Rachel Lazar
Supporters say the Commandments are the basis of US Law and should be posted in schools. But a federal appeals court ruled last week that Louisiana Louisiana's similar law is unconstitutional. Rachel Lazar, who heads Americans United for Separation of Church and State, says the Texas law is too there are limits.

On the free exercise of religion. In other words, the government cannot favor one set of religious views over any.
Rachel Lazar
Others or religion over non religion Americans United. As a financial supporter of npr, Lazar says her group and others are also considering suing Texas over another new law which would let school districts set aside time for students and faculty to pray or read religious scripture. You're listening to npr. The National Transportation Safety Board blames the Alaska Air blowout during a flight from Portland, Oregon to Ontario last year on systemic failures. NTSB says four bolts securing a door plug had been removed during a repair but not replaced. The agency also found that the actions of the flight crew saved lives. All 177 people aboard the Boeing Max 737 jet survived the January 2024 incident. President Trump made millions last year from his golf courses and other business ventures and got another boost from the Bible. Bob Smetana of Religion News Service has details.

Donald Trump earned 1.3 million in 2024 for endorsing the God Bless the USA Bible, according to financial documents released by the White House. The Trump endorsed Bible features the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and lyrics to a song by country singer Lee Greenwood. Greenwood sells several politically themed scriptures, including one called the Day that God Intervened, which commemorates the foiled assassination attempt against President Trump last July in Pennsylvania. Key Points:
Notable Quote:
"U.S. strikes have likely set back Iran's nuclear program by a few months." – Shae Stephens [00:21]
Overview: Oil prices experienced a notable drop of $4 per barrel on Tuesday. While some attributed this decline to discussions of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, NPR's Camilla Domonoski clarifies that the price reduction began prior to any truce talks.
Key Points:
Market Confidence: Oil analysts and traders, including Susan Bell from Rystad Energy, are increasingly confident that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open to tanker traffic, mitigating fears of supply disruptions.

Overview: Civil liberties organizations are preparing to challenge Texas legislation that mandates the posting of a copy of the Ten Commandments in all public school classrooms. This move follows a similar, previously struck-down law in Louisiana.
Key Points:
Supporters' Argument: Proponents believe the Ten Commandments form the foundation of U.S. law and should be displayed in educational settings.
Legal Opposition: A federal appeals court recently ruled Louisiana's analogous law as unconstitutional. Rachel Lazar of Americans United for Separation of Church and State emphasizes that government cannot favor one religion over others or non-religion.
"The government cannot favor one set of religious views over any others." – Rachel Lazar [02:49]
Potential Further Litigation: Lazar’s group, along with others, is considering legal action against additional Texas laws that allow school districts to allocate time for prayer or religious scripture reading.
