Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Kristen Wright. The ceasefire between Israel and Iran appears to be holding as NATO leaders wrap up their summit in the Netherlands. At a press conference today, President Trump maintained US Bombings of three nuclear sites Iran set back Iran's enrichment program decades. This contradicts the finding of an early US Intelligence assessment. Trump is citing an Israeli review of the damage.
Unnamed Israeli Official
The Atomic Energy Commission of Israel and I just wonder. This is an official letter and they're very serious people. As you know, the devastating US Strike on Fordo destroyed the site's critical infrastructure and rendered the enrichment facility totally inoperable. It was devastated.

Trump says he and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky had a good meeting at the summit. Democratic Socialist Zoran Mamdani is poised to become the Democratic Party's nominee for mayor of New York City. NPR's Stephen Fowler has more on what the primary outcome does and doesn't mean for the national party.
Stephen Fowler
At a time when the Democratic brand is facing deep unpopularity with voters, Mamdani's success is notable. Tom Jensen of Democratic aligned firm Public Policy Polling said a big part of that came from increased turnout and support from voters under 45. What we really just found the key was, was he was engaging young people in a level that's extremely unusual for something like a primary election for mayor. After losing the White House, the Senate and failing to retake the House, the Democrats are searching for good signs anywhere they can. Stephen Fowler, NPR News, the chairman of.

The CDC's influential vaccine advisory committee met today with all new members, and a new tone was immediately evident. Martin Koldorff, a biostatistician and the chair of the group, says they're considering major changes to the vaccine schedule for kids.
Stephen Fowler
The number of vaccines that our children and adolescents receive today exceed what children in most other developed nations receive.

The committee's recommendations are critical in guiding state and local vaccine policies, along with what insurers cover. Two weeks ago, Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Purged the committee and replaced it with new members. Some of them have expressed skepticism about vaccines. Ping Huang, NPR News, Atlanta.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was taken to the hospital for dehydration today. A spokesperson says he was released and is back at work at the Capitol. The high temperature in Washington today is 98 degrees. Extreme heat warnings and advisories are in effect across the Mid Atlantic, central US and the South. Weather forecasters say it'll last a bit longer. This is NPR News from Washington. Three new albums stormed the Billboard top 10, but the album at the top of the charts remains immovable. NPR Stephen Thompson has more.

A researcher in Switzerland says his team is finding a new occurrence in the country's glaciers, holes emerging from inside of them, sort of like Swiss cheese. The scientist believes the holes are caused by turbulence from water passing through the bottom of the glaciers or from airflow through the holes. Switzerland's glaciers are melting from the planet warming. A SpaceX capsule is on its way to the International Space Station. It launched from Florida early today. A private crew of four astronauts from the U.S. india, Poland and Hungary are all on board and and will conduct experiments on the International Space Station. This is NPR News. I'm Kristen Wright.

NPR News Now: Detailed Summary of June 25, 2025, 4PM EDT Episode
Released on June 25, 2025
Host Kristen Wright opens the episode by reporting on the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Iran, which appears to be holding as NATO leaders conclude their summit in the Netherlands. President Donald Trump asserted that recent U.S. bombings of three Iranian nuclear sites have significantly set back Iran's enrichment program by decades. This statement challenges earlier U.S. intelligence assessments.
At [00:42], an unnamed Israeli official from the Atomic Energy Commission of Israel provided further insight:
"The Atomic Energy Commission of Israel and I just wonder. This is an official letter and they're very serious people. As you know, the devastating US Strike on Fordo destroyed the site's critical infrastructure and rendered the enrichment facility totally inoperable. It was devastated."
This official confirmation underscores the severity of the U.S. action and its impact on Iran's nuclear capabilities.
President Trump also highlighted a productive meeting with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky during the NATO summit, signaling ongoing U.S. engagement in international affairs.
Switching to domestic politics, Democratic Socialist Zoran Mamdani emerges as a prominent figure poised to become the Democratic Party's nominee for Mayor of New York City. NPR's Stephen Fowler provides analysis on the implications of this potential nomination:
"At a time when the Democratic brand is facing deep unpopularity with voters, Mamdani's success is notable. Tom Jensen of Democratic-aligned firm Public Policy Polling said a big part of that came from increased turnout and support from voters under 45. What we really just found the key was, was he was engaging young people in a level that's extremely unusual for something like a primary election for mayor."
— [01:23] Stephen Fowler
Mamdani's ability to engage younger voters represents a strategic advantage for the Democratic Party as it seeks to revitalize its base following setbacks in recent national elections.
A significant development in public health, as Kristen Wright reports, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) vaccine advisory committee has announced a reevaluation of the current vaccination schedule for children. NPR’s Ping Huang elaborates on the potential changes:
"The CDC's influential vaccine advisory committee met today with all new members, and a new tone was immediately evident. Martin Koldorff, a biostatistician and the chair of the group, says they're considering major changes to the vaccine schedule for kids."
— [02:10] Ping Huang
Stephen Fowler adds context to the debate:
"The number of vaccines that our children and adolescents receive today exceed what children in most other developed nations receive."
— [02:23] Stephen Fowler
This reevaluation comes after Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. recently purged and replaced committee members, some of whom have exhibited skepticism about vaccines. The committee's recommendations will play a crucial role in shaping state and local vaccine policies and insurance coverage, indicating a potential significant shift in national vaccination strategies.
In political news, Kristen Wright reports that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was hospitalized due to dehydration but has since been released and is back to his duties at the Capitol. Additionally, Washington is experiencing extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 98 degrees Fahrenheit. Wright notes:
"Extreme heat warnings and advisories are in effect across the Mid-Atlantic, central US and the South. Weather forecasters say it'll last a bit longer."
— [02:49] Kristen Wright
The combination of political developments and severe weather conditions highlights ongoing challenges faced by public officials and residents alike.
Kristen Wright transitions to lighter news, sharing updates from the music industry. NPR’s Stephen Thompson reports on the latest Billboard top 10:
"Fresh faces abound on this week's charts. The K-pop group Ateez debuts at number two with 'Golden Hour Part Three.' The rapper Lil Teca follows closely behind with 'Dopamine.'"
— [03:24] Stephen Thompson
Additionally, contemporary Christian singer Brandon Lake makes his first top 10 appearance with his album 'King of Hearts', while country artist Morgan Wallen maintains his hold on the number one spot with 'I'm the Problem', which has secured its fifth consecutive week at the top.
An excerpt from an interview with Lil Teca adds a personal touch to the segment:
"My life changed so fast that I don't even recognize myself from last year."
— [03:39] Stephen Fowler
These movements in the music charts reflect a diverse and dynamic year in the music scene, with international acts and emerging artists making significant impacts.
In scientific news, Kristen Wright reports on a fascinating discovery by a Swiss researcher studying the country's glaciers. Holes have been observed emerging from within the glaciers, resembling "Swiss cheese." The scientist attributes these formations to turbulence caused by water flowing beneath the glaciers or airflow through the holes, highlighting the ongoing effects of global warming on these natural structures.
Additionally, a SpaceX capsule was launched from Florida earlier in the day, transporting a private crew of four astronauts from the United States, India, Poland, and Hungary to the International Space Station. The mission aims to conduct various experiments aboard the station, showcasing the advancements in private space travel and international collaboration in space exploration.
