From NPR News in Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston. The Supreme Court has cleared the way for South Carolina to exclude Planned Parenthood from its state Medicaid program. The ruling allows the state to cut off Medicaid funding to clinics that provide abortion services, even if funds are used for other care like cancer screenings or birth control. Alexis McGill Johnson, the president of Planned Parenthood, spoke to NPR after the decision was handed down today.
Alexis McGill Johnson
The reality is for people who need public insurance, it is because they are living at the margins of our communities. They are, they are in need of a social safety net. So when you take away access to Medicaid insurance and you deny their patient's ability to choose their provider, it means that it will have impact.
Windsor Johnston
Advocacy groups argue that South Carolina has the right to determine which providers qualify for Medicaid funding. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanch says the Justice Department will fully investigate the leak of a preliminary US Intelligence assessment of American military strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. And NPR's Ryan Lucas reports the Trump administration is pushing back on the initial assessment that concluded the damage from the attack was limited.
Todd Blanch
In an interview with Fox News, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche lashed out at both the individual or individuals who leaked the preliminary intelligence assessment and the media for reporting on it.
We are now going to investigate that completely and fully. The leaks are not done to give under the First Amendment. They're not done to give the American people some sort of insight that has been hidden from them. They're to damage President Trump. They're done to damage our military.
It's unclear what Blanche is basing his allegations on since he says the department is only beginning to investigate the leak and no suspect has been publicly identified or charged. Ryan Lucas, NPR News, Washington.

Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee says he isn't backing down on his push to sell federal land. NPR's Kirk Sigler reports. A Senate official stripped the plan from the current spending bill.
Kirk Sigler
The proposal to sell federal public lands in the west has drawn bipartisan backlash. Senator Mike Lee is now floating a scaled back plan that bars any U.S. forest Service lands from sales and would only allow sales on federal land within five miles of a city. In a tweet, Lee said American families need affordable housing. Lan Tawny with the lobbying group American Hunters and Anglers calls that a ruse?
Lan Tawny
My guess is they're not going to develop that for affordable housing, maybe a small portion, but it's going to be going to, you know, to develop condos for rich people to be there once a year.
Kirk Sigler
It's not yet clear if this latest public land sales proposal will make it back into the president's so called big beautiful bill in time for a vote. Kirk Zigler, NPR News, Boise.

The head of the federal agency that oversees Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac has ordered the mortgage giants to make a proposal to consider cryptocurrency as an asset when assessing single family home lo. NPR's Laurel Wamsley reports the order could have a broader impact on the banking world.
Laurel Wamsley
William Pulte, who leads the Federal Housing Finance Agency, said the order is in keeping with President Trump's vision to make the United States the crypto capital of the world. Crypto holdings have not typically been considered in the mortgage risk assessment process for loans sold to Fannie and Freddie unless the crypto is converted to US Dollars before closing. The order directs Fannie and Freddie to consider ways to mitigate risk and adjust for crypto's market volatility. If Fannie and Freddie do accept crypto as collateral, it could push banks to change their practices, too. The order did not specify which cryptocurrency should be accepted, but said they should be stored on a US Regulated centralized exchange. Laurel Wamsley, NPR News, Washington.
