Details@capitalone.com Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Kristen Wright. President Trump is meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House this evening. Trump says a ceasefire deal in Gaza could be reached this week. NPR's Daniel Estrin reports from Tel Aviv.
Daniel Estrin
Netanyahu is expected to remain in Washington until Thursday. He said talks with Trump could help with a deal in Gaza. Israeli and Hamas negotiators began talks Sunday in Doha, Qatar. Mediators tell NPR they're shuttling between the Israeli and Hamas delegations on different floors of the same hotel. They're working out the details of a 60 day ceasefire. Hamas would agree to release half of the living hostages it still holds in Gaza. Israel would release Palestinian prisoners, and the sides would start discussing a final end to the war in Gaza. Gaza, Trump and Netanyahu are expected to discuss the terms of ending the war, which could lead to more Arab and Muslim countries opening diplomatic relations with Israel. Daniel Estrin, NPR News, Tel Aviv.

The White House says this Wednesday's tariff deadline could be extended to August 1 for some countries as negotiations on possible deals continue. President Trump says he may visit Central Texas on Friday. The full scope of devastation from deadly flash flooding on July 4th is still coming to light. At least 82 people were killed, and a summer camp for girls in Kerr county confirms this morning that 27 of its campers and counselors died. The Guadalupe river rose extremely rapidly during intense rainfall. Questions are being asked now about whether those in dangers, whether those in danger received enough warning. Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice is promising a review of the emergency alert system.
Dalton Rice
While it is not the time to speculate, local and regional partners are committed to a full review of the events and systems in place.

Rice says the focus now is search and reunification efforts for victims still missing. Parts of North Carolina and Virginia are under flood warnings as Chantal, now a tropical depression, moves inland. NPR's Matt Bloom reports on floodwaters already affecting the area.
Mike Strickler
The storm has dropped near record amounts of rain in some parts of central North Carolina. Video and photos on local news media show vehicles and storefronts submerged in Chapel Hill, where some evacuations were issued. National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Strickler the.

Heavy rain threat will certainly subside, but floodwaters may take some time to recede and rises on creeks and rivers may continue through the early part of the week.

Chantal made landfall in South Carolina as a tropical storm, the third named system of the Atlantic hurricane season. Its remnants are expected to bring more rain to parts of Virginia before moving more northeast. Matt Bloom, NPR News.

This is NPR News from Washington. Today marks six months since Southern California's deadly Eaton Fire. One woman has made it her mission to reunite survivors with pictures and other keepsakes. Stephen Cuevas has more.
Claire Schwartz
The raging winds that drove the fire through Altadena also scattered scores of family photos, kids, art and other ephemera into yards and roadways. Claire Schwartz saw posts on social media about the found items, and she decided to take them off people's hands and search for the proper owners. Now the Eaton Fire Found Photos project has reunited around two dozen locals with their keepsakes. Sometimes for people who lost everything else.
Stephen Cuevas
It'S not putting a roof over anybody's head, but it maybe is bringing back a little bit of normalcy or comfort to somebody who might really need it.
Claire Schwartz
With so much of the community taken by the fire, Schwartz says it's been something that's also helped ease her own grief. For NPR News, I'm Stephen Cuevas in Altadena.

The number of measles cases in the US has hit its highest level since the virus was declared eliminated 25 years ago. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports more than 1200 confirmed cases of the highly contagious virus this year. There is a measles outbreak in Kentucky right now, and it's going around in several other states. Texas is also confirming new cases tied to a major outbreak in West Texas during the winter and spring. According to the cdc, a majority of measles cases are in people who are not vaccinated. Elon Musk says he's formed a new political party called the America Party. He posted this on X over the weekend. I'm Kristen Wright, and this is NPR News from Washington.
