The president of Brazil is promising reciprocal tariffs against the U.S. this comes after President Trump announced a 50% tariff on all products from Brazil starting Aug. 1. Writing online, Trump cited a witch hunt against Brazil's former president, Jair Bolsonaro. He's on trial, accused of plotting a coup to stay in power. President Trump also announced a 50% tariff on copper, effective August 1. He says copper should be a dominant industry in America once again. Former President Joe Biden's longtime physician declined to testify at a House hearing Wednesday on Biden's health in office. Dr. Kevin O' Connor asserted Dr. Patient privilege and the right against self incrimination. NPR's Elena Moore reports.

Now O' Connor was subpoenaed by the House Committee on Oversight and Government, which is investigating what they describe as the COVID up of President Joe Biden's cognitive decline. But a statement provided on behalf of Oconnors said that cooperating with the probe would have violated his professional obligation to maintain patient information. Concerns about Biden's health did plague the final years of his presidency, and new reporting has alleged that Biden's staff may have taken steps to hide his decline. Biden has rejected those allegations. Elena Moore, NPR News.

You're listening to NPR News from Washington. In Los angeles, more than 31 workers building an underground tunnel for a wastewater treatment plant have been rescued after a partial collapse. Steve Futterman reports.
Steve Futterman
The collapse occurred in the early evening. Officials say the trapped workers had to climb through debris up to 15ft high. The massive seven mile underground tunnel is designed to return waste that's been treated back into the ocean. When the collapse occurred, more than 100 first responders raced to the scene. A triage unit was set up. Fortunately, it was not needed. LA Mayor Karen Bass I was so.
Karen Bass
Concerned that we were going to find tragedy. Instead, what we found was victory. All of the men that were in that tunnel rescued.
Steve Futterman
The rescue workers inside a giant cage were lifted out of the tunnel by a crane. There will be an investigation to determine what caused the collapse. For NPR News, I'm Steve Futterman in Los Angeles.
