With grieving neighbors, all praying and singing together, remembering the victims. The vigil also included a tribute to Camp mystic, which became the heart of one of the deadliest natural disasters in Texas history. Randy Rose, who grew up in the area, says the vigil gave the community a moment to breathe.
Randy Rose
It was a time of healing. It was a time of trying to, you know, get back to some normalcy and step away from the tragedy for a minute.
Lucio Vazquez
Rose says he felt lighter after leaving the vigil. Still, the community is bracing for long days ahead. For NPR News, I'm Lucille Vazquez in Kerrville.

President Trump says it may take another week to finalize a Gaza ceasefire deal that a senior Israeli official says may only be temporary. NPR's Daniel Estrin has more from Tel Aviv.
Daniel Estrin
For days, Trump said a Gaza ceasefire could happen this week. Now he's revised that estimate. Speaking to reporters.
Donald Trump
We're talking about Gaza for the most part. I think we have a chance this week or next week.
Daniel Estrin
A senior Israeli official speaking to reporters on condition of anonymity, said a ceasefire in Gaza might be possible within a week or two. The official said that during that 60 day ceasefire, Israel would offer Hamas a permanent ceasefire as long as Hamas lays down their arms. And if it doesn't, it Israel would resume the war. Hamas says major disagreements with Israel on a ceasefire remain unresolved. Israel's defense minister told reporters that Israel aims to eventually relocate Gazans to a zone surrounded by troops. That proposal is being condemned by a UN Refugee agency for Palestinians. Daniel Estrin, NPR News, Tel Aviv.

Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Has postponed the meeting of a federal task force force that makes health recommendations. NPR's Will Stone reports. The U.S. preventative Services Task Force was set together today, but the meeting was canceled at the last minute.
Will Stone
The group of independent experts conducts in depth reviews of medical research and crafts federal guidance on preventive care like cancer screenings or who should take what medications. A spokesperson for the Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the meeting was canceled, but did not provide any details about why. The decision to call off the meeting is worrying some public health groups, given the recent changes to another federal task force that deals with vaccines. Recommendations that come from the committee can have broad influence shaping insurance coverage and health policy. Will stone, NPR News.

Search and rescue crews continue to look for a dozen crew members missing after Yemen's Houthi rebels sank a ship in the Red Sea and after attacking it with explosive drones and gunfire earlier this week. At least three crew members were killed, 10 were rescued. The US embassy in Yemen alleges the Houthis may have kidnapped some surviving crew members. This attack follows another one last weekend and marks escalating violence tied to the Israeli Hamas conflict. A new animated movie on Netflix is spawning a summer soundtrack sensation, and Pierce Stephen Thompson has more.

For seven weeks, the top of the Billboard albums chart has been reserved for Morgan Wallen's I'm the Problem. It's a blockbuster whose streaming numbers have remained remarkably consistent. But the rest of the top 10 has been volatile in recent weeks as new albums storm the chart only to quickly drop out. But there's an exception, the soundtrack to the Netflix original movie K Pop Demon.

That'S golden by several contributors to the movie and itself. Soundtrack. It's one of seven songs from K Pop Demon Hunters to crash the Hot 100 singles chart, while the album rises from number eight to number three. The source of that chart growth? Streaming, as fans switch from watching the movie to playing its soundtrack over and over again. Stephen Thompson, NPR News.

Hundreds of mourners gathered in Kerr County, Texas, to honor the victims of the devastating floods that struck the region last week. The Texas Hill Country became the somber setting for one of the deadliest natural disasters in the state's history, with at least 120 confirmed deaths and over 160 individuals still missing.
Lucio Vazquez, reporting from Kerrville, described the vigil: "With grieving neighbors, all praying and singing together, remembering the victims." The tribute prominently featured Camp Mystic, symbolizing the heart-wrenching impact of the floods.
Randy Rose, a local resident, shared his sentiments:
"It was a time of healing. It was a time of trying to, you know, get back to some normalcy and step away from the tragedy for a minute." [00:56]
Despite the momentary solace provided by the vigil, the community remains vigilant, preparing for the challenges that lie ahead as recovery efforts continue.

President Donald Trump announced that finalizing a ceasefire agreement in Gaza might extend into the following week, a revision from his earlier expectation that it could be achieved within the current week.
In a press briefing, Trump stated:
"We're talking about Gaza for the most part. I think we have a chance this week or next week." [01:32]
Daniel Estrin reported from Tel Aviv, highlighting statements from a senior anonymous Israeli official who indicated the possibility of a ceasefire within one to two weeks. The proposed 60-day ceasefire includes conditions where Hamas would need to lay down their arms to secure a permanent truce. Failure to comply would result in Israel resuming military operations.
However, Hamas remains firm, citing unresolved major disagreements with Israel, while Israel's Defense Minister revealed plans to eventually relocate Gazans to a troop-surrounded zone—a proposal facing condemnation from the UN Refugee Agency for Palestinians.
[02:13 - 03:03]
