The pace of activity along the Guadalupe river in Texas has slowed somewhat more than a week after a flash flood killed at least 131 people. NPR's Martin Kosti reports from the town of Kerrville.
Martin Kosti
Rainstorms and new flood warnings paused things along the river over the weekend, which one county official called a gift because it allowed the hundreds of volunteers and first responders to take a much needed rest. Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly says as work resumes, search and rescue is still the priority.
Rob Kelly
But and that's what we were doing yesterday, we moved on to also include recovery, and that's where we had the people out in the the river basin doing a lot of work. We're trying to get a handle on things.
Martin Kosti
About 160 people are still thought to be missing, and given the destructive force of the flood, it's unclear how many more deaths can be confirmed. Martin Costi, NPR News, Kerrville, Texas.
