In January, the Trump administration announced a freeze in child care subsidies and cash aid to California, New York, Colorado, Illinois and Minnesota. Officials pointed to a years long benefits scandal in Minnesota and claimed there was ongoing fraud in the five states but offered no evidence. The state sued, noting that stopping funds for those programs would hit hard for hundreds of thousands of low income families. A federal judge had blocked the move. In a letter filed with the court, the the Department of Health and Human Services does not explain why it's canceling that freeze. Last time lawmakers got this close was in 2022 when the Senate approved the Sunshine Protection act, but it never passed the House. June's lower inflation was driven by a drop in gas prices before the war with Iran heated back up. Dozens of protesting workers at the Rwampara General Hospital shut down the treatment center, claiming that they had not been paid for two months. They lit a fire outside the facility and blocked the main road leading to it. Ruampara Hospital is located in Ituri Province, the epicentre of the Ebola outbreak in Congo. Recently, Congolese authorities said they are conducting a verification process to identify people employed to deal with the outbreak, claiming that the names of some unapproved individuals had been added to the payroll.
