Live from NPR News, I'm Lakshmi Singh. President Trump's just announced a deal with indonesia that includes 19% tariffs in exchange for what he describes as unprecedented US access to Indonesia. In response to today's inflation report, Trump said the Fed needs to see things his way on interest rates.
Scott Horsley
So what you should do is lower the rate. The Fed should lower the rate immediately.
Lakshmi Singh
As NPR's Scott Horsley reports, inflation rose last month as Trump's tariffs began to be felt in the prices that consumers pay. The cost of living in June was up 2.7% from a year earlier.
Richard Blumenthal
Prices rose 0.3% between May and June, which is a sharper increase than the previous month. Rising rents were the biggest driver of inflation, but the price of clothing and appliances also rose rose, which economists say likely reflects the early impact of President Trump's tariffs. Trump has imposed taxes of at least 10% on nearly everything the US buys from other countries, with higher tariffs on goods from China. The president has threatened substantially higher tariffs on goods from many countries beginning August 1st. Some things got cheaper last month, including new and used cars and airline tickets, but gasoline and grocery prices were up in June. Electricity was also more expensive as hot summer weather boosted demand for air conditioning. Scott Horsley, NPR News, Washington.

Russia shows no sign of bowing to US Pressure to commit to a ceasefire with Ukraine. President Trump's facing bipartisan calls from Congress, including from Senator Richard Blumenthal, to back a bill that would allow the president to impose 500% tariffs on goods from countries that trade with Russia.
Scott Horsley
I think the president is serious, certainly, I hope so. But one way or the other, our legislation will show unity and strong solidarity between Congress and the administration. That unity is very important as a message to Putin that 85 members of the United States Senate have co sponsored this bone crushing sanctions legislation.

That sewer geyser that you see is actually a situation where the backup from the city sewer system popped the manhole and you get that geyser condition.
