El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele says this was a deal that was months in the making. He says his country handed over all the Venezuelan nationals that the US Deported to El Salvador to be kept in a notorious prison in exchange for those he called gang members. Bukele says Venezuela released a, quote, considerable number of political prisoners as well as the American citizens it was holding. Secretary of State Marco Rubio thanked Bukele for helping to get this deal done, winning the release of 10Americans. Rubio says until today there were more Americans wrongfully held in Venezuela than any other country in the world. Michelle Kellerman, NPR News, the State Department.

President Trump is suing the Wall Street Journal. Trump filed the lawsuit over the papers reporting on his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. The lawsuit seeks at least $10 billion in damages and also names owner Rupert Murdoch. Hosting Republican lawmakers at the White House last night, President Trump thanked them for their work in the first six months of his second term in office.

And I think we have a ch the midterms. I don't understand why they say that when you win the presidency, you always almost automatically lose the midterms because nobody's had a more successful period of time than we have. So based on that, we should do great.

Trump praised Republicans for confirming his Cabinet nominees, passing his massive tax and spending bill, and sending him a bill that's aimed at boosting confidence in the crypto industry. Israel blockaded aid into Gaza for several months before setting up a U S. Backed food distribution program. It has four pickup sites, but all of them are in military zones. And the United nations says more than 800 Palestinians have been killed trying to get that food so far. NPR's Emily Fang reports.

The Kuwait Specialized Field Hospital in southern Gaza says it has received a, quote, unprecedented influx of people suffering from severe exhaustion, emaciation and acute maltreation. The Nasser Medical Complex nearby also says they do not have sufficient medical supplies to treat, quote, the waves of starving individuals coming to them. Very little food and aid is getting into Gaza. A US And Israeli backed food distribution program has opened up for pickup sites, but they're all in military zones. And the UN says more than 800 Palestinians have been killed trying to get that food so far. NPR's Anas Baba in Gaza witnessed hundreds of Palestinians who protested across Gaza against this distribution program on Friday. They say the system is flawed and much of the food ends up with gangs and Emily Fang, NPR News, Tel Aviv.

And you're listening to NPR News. Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson says crews are working to contain a fuel spill into a creek on the Olympic Peninsula. The governor's office says a tanker truck was involved in a crash. Photos show the truck upside down in the waters of Indian Creek. It's not clear how much fuel has spilled. The creek is a tributary of a river where salmon runs were recently restored. The founder of one of the most prominent conservative think tanks in the U.S. has died. NPR's Matt Bloom reports that Edwin Fullner oversaw the Heritage Foundation's growth into a modern day political force.

Fulner founded Heritage ahead of the Reagan era and shaped federal tax cuts, military spending and government downsizing through the 80s. He often referred to his think tank as a battle tank to turn conservative principles from his Catholic upbringing into policy. Here he is speaking with NPR in 1980.
