In Washington, I'm Giles Snyder. President Trump is suing media mogul Rupert Murdoch over a Wall Street Journal report that the future president sent disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein a lewd birthday car than 20 years ago. Trump calls the story a lie. NPR's David Folkenflick reports.
David Folkenflick
Murdoch is also the controlling owner of Fox News, and he has been one of Trump's most important political allies. The suit also names the Journal and two of its reporters. It follows Trump's litigation against abc, cbs, Meta and X, each of which paid his Future Presidential Library $10 million or more to settle. The Journal reported that Trump had doodled a picture of a naked woman and offered a birthday which may every day be another wonderful secret. The Journal's parent company said it had full confidence in the rigor and accuracy of our reporting. Authorities say Epstein killed himself in jail in 2019 awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, a source of great speculation among many Trump supporters. David Folkenflick, NPR News.

Syria's interim president has declared a ceasefire, and ethnic fighting in the south of the country between Druze militas and Bedouin tribesmen. More than 300 people have died in violence this week that NPR's Emily Fang reports, has severely tested the transition government.

Syria's Ahmed Al Sharra said more troops would deploy back to Sweden and southern Syria in order to implement the ceasefire. The fighting that started this week was sparked by a spate of kidnappings between ethnic Druze and Bedouin groups. Syria's central government deployed their troops there, saying it was to maintain order. But Druze militias fought back, drawing the Syrian government into fighting. Then Israel got involved, striking Syrian targets in Sweda and the capital, Damascus, to protect the Druze. Israel said on Saturday a prominent Druze leader urged a ceasefire. The U.S. s Middle east special envoy for Syria, Tom Barrack, separately announced Syria and Israel had also agreed to a ceasefire, though clashes continue in southern Syria. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says Russia fired more than 300 drone and 30 cruise missiles in last night's attack. The city of Odessa was heavily targeted. Los Angeles fire Department spokesman Captain Adam Van Gerpen says more than 120 firefighters responded to the scene outside of music venue in East Hollywood, where a vehicle plowed into a crowd overnight.
Captain Adam Van Gerpen
The scene, when they got on, when they arrived was very chaotic. Ultimately, there ended up being a total of 30 patients. So out of those 30 patients, seven of them were critical, what we call immediate.

Gerben told the Associated Press that one of the patients had a gunshot wound and that the incident is being investigated by Los Angeles police. He says people were lined up to enter a nightclub when they were struck by a Nissan Versa that also hit a taco truck and a valet stand. You're listening to NPR News. Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson says crews are working to contain a fuel spill into a creek on the Olympic Peninsula. The governor's office says a tanker truck was involved in a crash. Photos show the truck upside down in the waters of Indian Creek. It's not clear how much fuel has spilled. The creek is a tributary of a river where salmon runs were recently restored. What you pay for an airline ticket could soon have little to do with market conditions and lots to do with an AI bot. Jim Burris reports from member station WABE in Atlanta that Delta Air Lines is seeing favorable returns from its early tests of its AI driven pricing.
Jim Burris
Delta currently prices about 3% of its tickets using an AI tool that predicts what each individual traveler is willing to pay. In a recent call with shareholders, Delta executives said early results had proven amazingly favorable. So good, in fact, the Atlanta based carrier plans to extend the pricing strategy to 20% of tickets by year's end. Other big airlines like Virgin Atlantic have also experimented with the technology. Consumer advocates and some lawmakers are less enthusiastic. However, they caution this personalized approach could lead to predatory or biased pricing claims. Delta downplays. The airline says it has implemented safeguards to ensure pricing is both legal and fair. For NPR News, I'm Jim Burris in Atlanta.
