Starting today, Israel says it will halt military activity for 10 hours and establish new corridors for food aid. Last night, Israel began airdropping aid into Gaza. NPR's Eleanor Beardsley reports. The moves follow an international outcry as famine conditions in Gaza worsen.

The IDF says the humanitarian airdrop operation will be carried out in coordination with international aid organizations. The airdrop will include pallets of supplies, flour, sugar and canned food provided by international partners. The Israeli army said it will also facilitate the expansion of water desalination in the Gaza Strip by connecting the desalination plant to Israeli electricity. The sheriff's office says a deputy arrived within minutes and took the man into custody and that people in the store helped apprehend him and treat the victims. Authorities say the suspect is 42 years old and used a folding knife to carry out the attack late yesterday afternoon. Six are reported to be in critical condition, with another five in serious condition. Trade with the European Union on President Trump's agenda today. He is to meet with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen today at his Turnberry golf course in Scotland. Trump has set a Friday deadline to reach a deal with the eu. North Texas Congressman Keith Self received both praise and criticism during his town hall meeting Saturday morning. And as Bill Siebel from member station KERA reports, a Republican says he supports releasing the Epstein files.

This is NPR News. Forecasters are warning of dangerously hot conditions in parts of the country today. Heat advisories and warnings are in place from the Midwest to the Southeast. The National Weather Service says several major metropolitan areas will face an extreme heat risk for several days this week, including Raleigh and Sharp, Charlotte in North Carolina, the Greenville Spartanburg area in South Carolina and Atlanta in Georgia. A panel of doctors asking the FDA to remove a safety label from certain kinds of hormone treatment for women in menopause. NPR's Katia Riddle reports.

Symptoms of menopause can include a wide variety of things like hot flashes, mood changes and sleep disruption. Hormone therapy can help, but doctors and researchers have debated over the last few decades whether this treatment increases cancer risk. That's why some prescriptions come with a black box safety warning. Now experts are asking the FDA to remove it for some kinds of treatments that have been shown to be safe.
