Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Lakshmi Singh. As of tomorrow, the US And Israel will have been at war with Iran for five months. There is currently a pause in fighting. A regional official involved in mediation efforts but not authorized to speak publicly says concerted diplomacy is underway. The official says the US And Iran want to return to an interim ceasefire deal that addresses flexibility in transit through the Strait of Hormuz, vital global shipping route. There's concern Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's meeting tomorrow at the White House could complicate matters. Netanyahu's facing heavy pressure from far right leaders at home who want to maintain military pressure on Iran. Meanwhile, President Trump addressed reporters earlier today.

President Trump on Air Force One in Route 2 Michigan, where the president is defending his handling of the US Economy and sweeping tariffs, including new hefty levies against Canadian goods that stand to affect Michigan businesses. Michigan holds primaries next week. Former FBI Director Jim Comey is asking a judge to dismiss his indictment for posting a photo of seashells on a North Carolina Beach. NPR's Kerry Johnson reports. Comey argues that image cannot be considered a true threat.

Jim Comey says he thought shells that spelled out the numbers 8647 were clever political commentary using restaurant slang to express opposition to the 47th president, Donald Trump. But the Justice Department turned Comey's Instagram post into a criminal prosecution, arguing the former FBI director made a serious threat against the president in a new court filing. Comey's lawyer that defies common sense and the First Amendment. Comey says he's being punished for criticizing Trump and that forcing him to stand trial will chill free speech. Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson says the suspect held in connection with yesterday's mass shooting is 15 years old. The teen is due to appear in court this afternoon. Wilson says police are still looking for a second person believed to have information about the shooting at an annual food festival. Three people were killed in the incident. Several people were wounded. Several victims were being discharged or have already been discharged from the hospital today. A candlelight vigil is scheduled tonight this is NPR News. The Chinese government says it'll take, quote, all necessary measures if the U.S. imposes sanctions on Chinese artificial intelligence companies. Here's NPR's John China's Ministry of Commerce

accuses the United States of disregarding facts and engaging in AI hegemony. It issued a warning that for any action that substantially harms China's interests, China will take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests. After the release earlier this month of a new and powerful Chinese AI model called Kimi K3, senior US officials alleged that it had been trained by distilling cutting edge US Models and threatened possible sanctions against Chinese firms that steal American intellectual property.

Nolan superfans are touting the virtues of seeing the Odyssey on one of the mere 41 screens, 25 in the US and another 16 abroad that are equipped to play 70 millimeter IMAX film, the format the Odyssey was shot in. But there are plenty of what the industry calls premium large format auditoriums, including digital iMacs and conventional 70 millimeter. They represent about 1% of Odyssey showings. But because audiences are eager to see the film on the biggest possible screen, that 1% is pulling in 20% of ticket sales. That means that after creating special cameras so that Nolan could shoot the Odyssey entirely on IMAX film, which is a Hollywood first, the company now has a fresh challenge. It is racing to fill construction orders for dozens of new IMAX auditoriums. Bob Mondello, NPR News.
