It's a critical week for the US Policy on tariffs. President Trump is threatening higher tariffs for any country that doesn't agree to a trade deal by Friday. That deadline comes in a week when we'll get some critical clues about how tariffs are impacting the economy. On Wednesday, the US Will report how much the economy grew in the most recent quarter. Then on Thursday, we'll get a key inflation gauge closely tracked by the Federal Reserve. The report will give an update on how much tariffs are affecting prices. And on Friday, we'll get the latest employment report. So far, the labor market has remained solid, but there are doubts about how long that can last. Rafael Nahm, NPR News.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is growing more dire. Most aid is being blocked before it reaches civilians, and many distribution sites remain too dangerous to access. Dr. Nick Maynard, a surgeon who volunteered at the hard hit Nasser in Gaza, says health care workers are facing extreme hunger.
Dr. Nick Maynard
They're all weak. They're all tired, they're all hungry, they're all getting ill. It undoubtedly has an impact on their ability to work, but they are carrying on, working heroically in my view, sometimes for 24 hour shifts.

Spirit filed for bankruptcy protection. A new study finds that lifestyle changes can improve the memory and thinking of people in their 60s and 70s. NPR's John Hamilton reports from the Alzheimer's Association International meeting in Toronto.

The study involved more than 2100 people from 60 to 79 who did not exercise regularly or follow a healthful diet. Half devised their own program for a healthier lifestyle. The other half did aerobic exercise four times a week, followed a heart healthy diet and did online brain training. Laura Baker of Wake Forest University says after two years, people in the intensive program did much better.
Laura Baker
These people are obtaining cognitive function scores that are similar to people who are one to two years younger than they are.

The results were reported at the Alzheimer's Conference and in the Journal of the American Medical Association. John Hamilton, NPR News.
