Details@capitalone.com Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. President Trump says he's going to remove the head of the agency that produces the monthly jobs figures. That decision came soon after the latest jobs report that shows a drastic drop in new hires in July. NPR's Danielle Kurtzleben says the numbers infuriated Trump.
Danielle Kurtzleben
Rather than address the slowing job growth, he instead just decided to attack the messenger. He went on social media and posted that he was firing Dr. Erica McIntar. She's the commissioner of Labor Statistics. Now. She was a Biden appointee and he accuses her, therefore, of manipulating the jobs numbers to hurt him and Republicans. And really, this is an astounding moment. Now, first of all, we've seen no evidence that she manipulated anything. But furthermore, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, it's just staffed by numbers people.

That's NPR's Danielle Kurtzleben. The late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein's longtime accomplice and former girlfriend, Ghilan Maxwell, has been moved from a federal prison in Florida to a prison camp in Texas. The move comes a week after she met with a top Justice Department official. NPR's Ryan Lucas has more.
Ryan Lucas
Maxwell is serving a 20 year sentence for helping Jeffrey Epstein sexually exploit underage girls. She had been held at a federal lockup in Florida, but the Federal Bureau of Prisons says Maxwell has now been transferred to a lower security prison camp in Bryan, Texas. No reason was given for the move, but it comes after Maxwell's meeting last week with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who previously served as President Trump's personal attorney. The Justice Department has not provided any details on the meeting, which was behind closed doors. Maxwell's attorney, though, has said she answered every question from Blanche over two days. The meeting was part of the Trump administration's effort to tamp down public uproar over its handling of the Epstein files. Ryan Lucas, NPR News, Washington.

Some professors and students are criticizing Brown University's recent $50 million deal with the Trump administration. From member station GBH, Kirk Carapezza reports that this is the third agreement with an Ivy League school, following deals by Penn and Columbia.

Under Brown's deal, the university will provide admissions and hiring data and adopt the government's def and female. Jay Green is a research fellow at the Heritage Foundation. He says the dollar amounts aren't what matters. The point, he says, is to get colleges to comply with federal law.
Jay Green
The boards of trustees are legally responsible, but they lack authority. That's because universities have developed a culture where the faculty have come to believe that they run the institution and they run it as a commune. But that's not true.
Kirk Carapezza
Brown President Christina Paxson says the agreement was voluntary and preserves professors ability to teach without government intrusion. For NPR News, I'm Kirk Carapeza in Boston.
