LIVE from NPR News, I'm Lakshmi Singh. A GOP led drive to redraw the congressional map in Texas has hit another roadblocks. Still no quorum for a vote.
Justin Burroughs
Mr. Garon moves the House stand adjourned until 9am Wednesday. Is there objection? Chair? Here is none. The House stands adjourned.

The gavel of State Speaker Justin Burroughs. Democratic lawmakers left Texas this week to block a redistricting vote. This morning, on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act, Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin spoke out during a news conference in Illinois against the GOP's actions in Texas.
Ken Martin
Just as the icons of the civil rights movement marched, protested and got into good trouble, just as Dr. King and Fannie Lou Hamer and John Lewis fought to ensure that Americans could access the ballot regardless of the color of their skin, so too are these courageous Texas House Democrats standing up and fighting back against a racial gerrymandering scheme to disenfranchise black and Latino voters.

President Trump, meanwhile, says Republicans are entitled to five more seats in Texas.
Donald Trump
We have a really good governor and we have good people in Texas. And I won Texas. I got the highest vote in the history of Texas, as you probably know, and we are entitled to five more seats.

President Trump in an interview with cnbc. He was also asked about a third term. Trump said he probably won't run again. And the president addressed tariffs on pharmaceuticals. He said a small tariff now, then a surge later to encourage more domestic production. The number of reported hate crimes fell slightly last year, a percentage and a half, according to the overall National Crime Statistics report released this morning by the FBI. NPR's Martin Kosti reports. All major categories of crime were down last year, including those motivated by bias, also known as hate crimes.
Martin Kosti
About 10,800, quote, hate crime incidents were reported in 2024. That's down about 1.5 percentage points. As to who's being victimized, most groups reported fewer or about the same number of incidents as the previous year, with a few notable exceptions. The number of incidents targeting Jews rose from 2069 to 2,239 and incidents against Muslims rose from 283 to 301. There was also a small increase in reported incidents against white people. All in all, it's unclear how accurately the National Hate crime statistics reflect broader reality as standards for labeling something as a hate crime can vary from place to place. The smoke from Canada's wildfires are still harming the air quality in the United States. Alerts were issued from the Midwest to the Northeast. New York City is experiencing some of the world's worst air quality readings today. The dows closed down 61 points. This is NPR News. Four European countries have agreed to buy $1 billion worth of U.S. weapons and send them to Ukraine. Here's NPR's Greg.

The Netherlands says it will send American missiles and other components used in the US Patriot air defense systems. In addition, Sweden, Norway and Denmark say they've agreed to support a package of US Weapons as well. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the assistance in a social media post. He also said he had a productive conversation with President Trump, adding that the two countries coordinated their position on the war. Trump opposes more US Military aid for Ukraine, but he said in July that NATO countries can buy US Weapons and send them there. Greg Myre, NPR News, Kyiv.

A new class action lawsuit alleges Tesla lied about the capabilities of its self driving technology. Here's NPR's Camilla Domonosky.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said for years Tesla vehicles are on the verge of being truly autonomous and told investors he thinks regulators will approve a robo taxi service. Tesla did launch robo taxis in Austin, Texas, this June with a safety monitor, so it's not truly unsupervised yet. And some videos from early rides have shown the vehicles appearing to violate traffic laws. The class action alleges Tesla executives knowingly deceived investors by overselling the software and inflating Tesla stock. Tesla has repeatedly maintained its software is better than a human driver. Camila Domonosky, NPR News.
