Details@capitalone.com Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Windsor Johnston. President Trump says there's a good chance that he'll soon meet with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. NPR's Franco Ordonez reports. The White House says progress is being made toward ending the three year conflict.
Franco Ordonez
President Trump says that his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, has had what he called a highly productive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. That road was long and continues to be long, but there's a good chance that there will be a meeting very soon. But he did not give specifics for a future meeting and he was careful to temper expectations declining, for example, to call this a breakthrough.
Windsor Johnston
I've been disappointed before with this one.
Franco Ordonez

Army officials say Sergeant Cornelius Radford opened fire on his co workers at their place of work on Post around 11am Brigadier General John Lubas, the commanding general of Fort Stewart, says soldiers in the area immediately and without hesitation tackled the shooter.

These soldiers without a doubt prevented further casualties.

Three of the five injured soldiers needed surgery, but all were in stable condition by the afternoon. Army officials declined to speculate on a motive. They say Radford used what was believed to be a personal handgun. They also stressed that the investigation is ongoing, but the base has been secured. For NPR News, I'm Emily Jones at Fort Stewart.

Millions of women in the United States could lose access to contraception under the Trump administration. NPR's Katia Riddle reports that include some rollbacks to a Nixon era program that guaranteed free contraception for low income people.
Katia Riddle
It's only been five decades since birth control became widely available in the U.S. now there are a number of ways administration is limiting access, cutting Medicaid, which provides contraception for low income women, as well as withholding funds from Planned Parenthood and the program called Title 10 created under President Nixon. Kimmy Chernoby is with the National Women's Law Center. So we think of Title 10 as.
Windsor Johnston
The only federal funding program that is.
Katia Riddle
Exclusively meant for family planning, and it's a huge source of contraception for people across this country. The Trump administration did not respond to requests for comment. Katie Ruddle, NPR News.

Stocks traded higher today on Wall Street. The Dow was up 81 points at the close. The NASDAQ up 252. This is NPR. The dance festival Jacob's Pillow in western Massachusetts has canceled the event for the rest of the summer season. Jeff London reports. The decision was made after a tragic accident last Friday which killed the center's production manager.
Jeff London
For 93 years, Jacob's pillow has been a haven for dancers, choreographers and audiences in the Berkshire Mountains, and this summer had begun with a celebration. A new theater with advanced technological capabilities opened on the campus. But last Friday, production manager Cat Sirico and an intern were moving platforms on a dolly down a sloped area outside. They lost control, fell, and the dolly rolled over them, killing Sirico. The center's board and management made the decision to cancel all future performances this summer. The national Historical Landmark for dance will reopen next year. For NPR News, I'm Jeff London.
