Pressed for details, Trump said that a deal to end the war in Ukraine would involve some exchange of territory.
Donald Trump
It's very complicated, but we're going to get some back. We're going to get some some switched. There'll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both and but we'll be talking about that either later or tomorrow or whatever.
Daniel Kurtzleben

Israel says it plans to take over Gaza City, the biggest city in the Gaza Strip. It's an escalation of its 22 month war against Hamas. The announcement led to renewed international calls to end the conflict. And it's also increasing fears over the fate of Israeli hostages still remaining in Gaza. The war has already led to more than 61,000 Palestinian deaths and increased food insecurity in the region. Immigration arrests at immigration court have increased in recent months. But as NPR's Meg Anderson reports, arrests at criminal courthouses are happening as well. And legal experts are worried about a chilling effect that's creating.
Meg Anderson
NPR spoke to defense lawyers and prosecutors in six states where ICE arrests at criminal courthouses have happened. They said the fear of arrest has made immigrants anxious about appearing in court. Some defense lawyers said they worried their clients felt pressure to accept plea deals to avoid going to court. And it's not just defendants. Immigrant victims and witnesses are afraid to show up, too, to testify against someone. For instance, Jamie Mosser, the state's attorney in Kane County, Illinois, says that can make it harder to prosecute a case.
Jamie Mosser
The biggest worry I have is that now am I going to have cases where there's a delay in getting to justice because they're being arrested by the ICE agents? Does that then negatively affect a victim?
Meg Anderson
Officials with ICE did not respond to a request for comment.

The Detroit Lions say safety Maurice Norris is in stable condition after he was carted off the field during a preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons. He was injured during a tackle. Team officials say he now has feeling and movement in all of his extremities. Detroit head coach Dan Campbell later responded.
Dan Campbell
To what happened, man, it's a violent game and we love it. And, you know, but when something like this happens, the silver lining is, man, the brotherhood. I mean, to see all all those guys, you know, from that team, our team kind of come together and everybody's thinking about another player just means a lot, you know.

After the injury, the ball was snapped one more time as both teams stood on the field to watch the clock wind down. The game was called with a 631 left to play. This is NPR News. Officials at Emory University had lifted a shelter in place order after a shooting near the campus that left one police officer dead. On Friday, police say a suspected shooter was found on the second floor of a building across from the Centers for Disease Control and he died at the scene. Several shots were fired at CDC buildings, but so far no civilian injuries have been discovered. The police say they have no motive for that shooting. Emergency crews in Southern California are working to contain a fast moving wildfire as the region deals with extreme heat. As Steve Futterman reports, the fire has burned more than 5,000 acres.

The canyon Fire is burning in the mountains in both north Los Angeles county and Ventura County. The region being impacted is mostly wilderness area, but some structures have been burned and destroyed. On Thursday night, fire crews had zero containment. However, they have now made significant progress attacking the fire both on the ground and from the air. Evacuation orders and warnings have been issued for more than 5,000 homes. Winds and high temperatures are making the fight more difficult for fire crews. Fire officials are hoping the winds will remain manageable as they work to get the upper hand. For NPR News, I'm Steve Futterman.
