A gunman opened fire through the windows of Annunciation Catholic Church and School during Mass on Wednesday morning, killing two children and injuring 17 other people. The 23 year old shooter later died from a self inflicted gunshot wound. The director of the CDC is refusing to step down, even after federal health officials posted online that she was out of a job on Wednesday. Jess Mador of member station WABE reports that Susan Menarez was sworn in less than a month ago.

NPR spoke to more than two dozen former U.S. officials in the Biden administration. With the situation in Gaza worsening in recent months, many of them said they were asking the question, did we do enough to pre. They said the administration constantly pressured Israel to allow more aid in, but ultimately President Biden and his advisers were reluctant to criticize Israel publicly or to withhold US Military aid to Israel. Humanitarian groups told NPR that the Trump administration has not pushed Israel at all on the issue of aid, even during Israel's three month blockade of Gaza. In the end, humanitarian experts say both the Trump and Biden administrations failed to get Israel to change its aid policies. Scott Matanis, NPR News.
