States that sued over the duties, but the tariffs do remain in effect for now to allow the Trump administration to appeal to the Supreme Court. The Israeli military is advancing further into Gaza City as part of a plan to occupy the entire territory and push the population south. Nprzeh Batrawai reports. The military says it's ending a partial pause on bombing the city, declaring it a combat zone.
Ayal Batrawi
Israel's military has declared Gaza City a dangerous combat zone and says a unilateral daytime pause on airstrikes announced weeks ago under international pressure is officially being lifted and that the city's total evacuation is inevitable. Palestinians say that pause was never truly in effect in the city. Gaza City is home to just under a million Palestinians, many of them surviving in makeshift tents. Its population, which is living through what UN Backed experts on hunger say is a famine, are being ordered by Israel's military to move to areas of Union Soviet southern Gaza. But those areas are also being bombed. Local health officials say a family comprised of a mother, father and two young boys were killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Gaza this week after they'd heeded orders and fled Gaza City. Police in Minneapolis are keeping a close watch on schools and houses of worship following the deadly shooting at a church this week. Matt's epic of Minnesota Public Radio has more.
Matt Sepic
Minneapolis police and other agencies are increasing their presence around schools and religious institutions for at least the next week. The attack at Assumption Catholic church Wednesday left two children dead and 18 other people wounded. Police say the church's practice of locking its doors after the start of each mass likely saved countless lives.

Matt Zepich reporting. A conservative justice on Wisconsin's Supreme Court has announced she will not seek reelection. As Wisconsin Public Radio's Anya Van Wagtendonk reports, the that sets up an open race for a court that's seen record high election spending.
Anya Van Wagtendonk
Justice Rebecca Bradley said she won't seek a second year term. In a statement, she blamed partisanship on the court and said she will seek a different path to, quote, rebuild the conservative movement and fight for liberty. The conservative firebrand has become known for sharply worded dissents in recent years after liberal justices took a majority on the state court two years ago and solidified it for years to come earlier this spring. Those election wins each followed the most expensive court races in American history, Bradley could have seen similar stakes in her reelection bid. In stepping down, she sets up a wide open race. For NPR News, I'm Anya Van Wagtendonk in Madison.

You're listening to NPR News from Washington. President Trump has revoked former Vice President Kamala Harris Secret Service protection. Typically, former vice presidents only get the protection for six months after they leave office. But former President Biden gave her an extension. It's the extension that Trump is revoking. This as she heads out on a nationwide book tour for her new book, 107 Days, about her historically short run for president. Last year, sales of electric vehicles were strong in July in the US the sales boom was partly driven by people trying to take advantage of an expiring tax credit that that's worth up to $7,500. But that's not the story in Europe, as NPR's Camilla Domonosky reports.
Camilla Domonosky
To snag that federal tax credit, EV buyers need to have a binding contract in place by the end of September. That's prompted a rush that pushed new EV sales up nearly 20% in the US compared to July last year. But European countries are not phasing out support for EVs. In fact, Germany is bringing back some government incentives. And compared to last year, European EV sales were up nearly 40% and plug in hybrid sales rose 57%. But not all EVs are thriving. Tesla sales are down sharply in Europe. Meanwhile, sales of the Chinese EV giant BYD have tripled. Camila Domonosky, NPR News, Wall street, lower.
