Taliban officials say the number of injured is up to 2,500. The U.S. geological Survey says the magnitude 6 earthquake struck yesterday along the border with Pakistan, not far from the city of Jalalabad. Officials say efforts to reach some of the injured are being slowed because of the remote mountainous terrain. China's President Xi Jinping says Beijing will provide tens of millions of dollars to its allies as a way to challenge the US the BBC's Laura Bicker reports on Xi's comments. He also urged them to create a new development bank and said China would contribute around one and a half billion dollars. The Chinese leader described this as a mega scale market to improve trade and investment between their countries. This is Mr. Xi's vision of a new global and economic order which he may hope will challenge the United states.

When it comes to economic reports, investors are obviously primarily focused on the numbers this time around. The jobs data out on Friday comes with a little more suspense. Trump fired the previous official in charge of statistics after the last report showed a big slowdown in in the number of jobs being added. The president claimed, without evidence that the data was being manipulated to make his administration look bad. Now that same agency, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, is set to report the latest numbers. And this time, investors will also have to pay attention to how President Trump reacts.
