Israel is defending yesterday's strike in the capital of Qatar. This was aimed at top Hamas leaders. The Israeli strike has been condemned by several nations, and President Trump has criticized it. Israel says it will act against its enemies anywhere it told Hamas to release all hostages or they will be killed. The leaders, that is, and Gaza will be destroyed. The US Supreme Court will take up President Trump's tariffs in early November. At issue is a question about congressional versus presidential authority. NPR's Nina Totenberg reports. Opponents of the tariffs say only Congress has the power to manage tariffs, and the president can only step in when.
Nina Totenberg
Congress allows in establishing the tariffs. They contend that Trump has vastly exceeded any power delegated to him by Congress under various statutes. A dozen states have joined the fight against the tariffs, too, arguing that the contrary to Trump's argument that the tariffs are aimed at preventing illegal fentanyl imports, the tariff statutes do not authorize such a tenuous connection to commerce. Taxing tomatoes, they say does not deal with fentanyl.
