Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. Authorities in Utah say they're preparing charges against the man accused of the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. As NPR's Bobby Allen reports, 22 year old Tyler Robinson is currently being held in a county jail.
Bobby Allen
Law enforcement apprehended Robinson following a tip received from a member of Robinson's family. As a young man, Robinson excelled in school and received a college scholarship, but dropped out after one semester offline. He grew up in a small Utah town where hunting was commonplace online. He spent a lot of time in corners of the Internet that celebrate edgy and trollish humor. Whatever led to Robinson allegedly targeting Kirk, it should shock Americans conscience, says Utah Governor Spencer Cox.

It is also much bigger than an attack on an individual. It is an attack on all of us. It is an attack on the American experiment. It is an attack on our ideals.
Bobby Allen
Authorities have vowed to seek the death penalty against Robinson. Bobby Allen, NPR News, Orem, Utah.

Kirk's widow, Erica Kirk, spoke Friday about her husband, saying he was a leader in representing American family values.
Erica Kirk
Charlie always said that if he ever ran for office, I know a lot of you asked if he ever was going to, but privately he told me if he ever did run for office, that his top priority would be to revive the American family. That was his priority.

The UN Security Council met in an emergency session Friday to discuss what Poland describes as Russia's strongest provocation yet against a NATO country during its war in Ukraine. Poland says Russia sent 19 drone type objects into its airspace during an attack on Ukraine this week. NPR's Michelle Kellerman has her reports.

Even as President Trump seemed to give credence to Russia's claims that the incursion was an accident, his administration joined Western allies. In a statement read out by Polish Secretary of State Marchin Bosachi, we take.

Russia says Poland has not provided evidence and dismissed the story as political clickbait. Acting US Ambassador Dorothy Shea criticized Russia for intensifying its bombing campaign after Trump hosted Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Michelle Kellerman, NPR News, Washington.

Wall street closed the week with stocks mixed today, but finished the week overall higher. The Dow Jones industrial average declined 273points finishing at 45,834. The S&P 500 was down just three points, closing at 6,584, and the Nasdaq was up 98 points, ending the week at 22,141. You're listening to NPR News. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant will be in Madrid this weekend for talks with Chinese officials. They'll be discussing tariffs and national security issues, including the ownership of the social media app TikTok. It's the fourth round of talks this year. Both countries have agreed to several 90 day pauses on increasing tariffs to avoid a trade war. President Trump has approved almost $30 million in federal funding for recovery in Wisconsin following devastating floods in Aug. Trump's disaster declaration means Milwaukee area residents whose homes or property were damaged by the floods could get relief from fema. Maria Peralta Arellano, member station WWM reports.
Maria Peralta Arellano
The worst of the flooding happened during severe rainstorms on August 9th and 10th. The floods damaged or destroyed more than 1,500 homes in the Milwaukee area and caused upwards of $70 million in damage. Trump partially approved Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers request for federal assistance. The approval allows people in three counties to apply for FEMA's Individual Assistance Program. But Trump has not yet approved Wisconsin's request for help through FEMA's Public Assistance Program, which would help pay for repairs to public infrastructure. That request is still being reviewed by the Trump administration. The approval comes two weeks after Governor Ever's formal request for FEMA funding. For NPR News, I'm Maria Peralta Arellano in Milwaukee.
