Live from NPR News in New York City. I'm Doualisai Kowtel. Prosecutors in Utah plan to file murder charges this Tuesday against the 22 year old man they allege assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The suspect, Tyler Robinson, is being held in a county jail. As NPR's Bobby Allen reports, Robinson grew.
Bobby Allen
Up in a small town in southwestern Utah. His family matched the profile of many people in that part of the state, avid hunters. His parents were registered Republicans. Growing up, Robinson was a gifted student. His mom had posted the Facebook about how he was a 4.0average in middle school, did well in high school and received a college scholarship, but he only completed one semester. As for Robinson's own politics, he was registered vote in Utah, but he had no party affiliation.

Robinson is expected to make his first court appearance on Tuesday. The murder charges carry the possible punishment of the death penalty if convicted. Turning Point USA announced that it will hold a memorial service for Charlie Kirk next Sunday at an Arizona stadium. The Trump administration last week released a report titled Make Our Children Healthy Again, but that report excluded discussion of smoking and tobacco. As NPR's Yuki Noguchi reports, anti smoking.
Brian King
Advocates are dismayed at the lack of discussion of smoking and nicotine addiction in the list of recommendations for addressing chronic disease. Brian King, until recently headed the Food and Drug Administration's tobacco Control division and is now an executive at the center for Tobacco Free Kids.
Attempting to combat chronic disease without tobacco control is like attempting a triathlon without a bicycle. You're destined for failure before leaving the starting line.
Although tobacco use has dropped dramatically among youth, it remains the top cause of preventable death in the US Yukin Oguchi, NPR News.

Days after NATO jets shot down Russian drones over Poland, Romania says its airspace was violated. Terry Schultz reports. NATO launched a new operation Friday in response to increasing concerns about the danger posted by Russian incursions.
Terri Schultz
Romania scrambled to F16 Saturday to track a Russian drone flying through its airspace, trailing the vehicle until it disappeared from the radar and posed no threat to civilians on the ground. Romanian Defense Minister Ionet Mostianu said on X his government condemns Russia's reckless behavior, which threatens regional stability, and said NATO countries remain vigilant and ready to defend every inch of allied airspace. Poland also put its defenses on high alert Saturday and temporarily closed an airport in the eastern city of Lublin, while NATO and Polish jets patrolled the airspace during Russian drone strikes in eastern Ukraine. NATO's new Eastern Sentry mission is assembling additional military resources, including fighter jets and anti drone equipment to counter potential threats from Russian drones. For NPR News, I'm Terri Schultz in Brussels.

And you are listening to NPR News from New York City. In Charlotte, North Carolina, a vigil was held at a park to honor and remember irina Zyrutska, the 23 year old Ukrainian woman who was stabbed to death three weeks ago on a light rail train. Here's Anton Rostotsky, a fellow Ukrainian and US Citizen.

For Irina to just flee this country to get more safe and then end up in this kind of like tragedy, it shouldn't happen in here.

Zyrutska had moved to Charlotte to work full time at a pizzeria. She also took classes at the local community college to help integrate into American life. Nearly one in five children younger than 13 years old say they're spending up to four hours every day on social media. NPR's Ritu Chartered reports. That's according to a new study by the Digital Security Co. Aura.
Ritu Chartered
Researchers at Aura looked at data of phone use among 8 to 17 year olds who have the company's software on their phones. Prolonged use of social media by those 13 and under suggest kids either override age verification or use social media excessively with parental consent. They also found that many kids start their mornings by checking their phones repeatedly. Psychologist Scott Collins, chief medical officer of aura, says use of AI chatbots is common among teens.
