Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Willman. Today was the first Sunday in Orem, Utah, since the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk during a speaking event at Utah Valley. As NPR's Marisa Penalozza reports, the effect on the community was palpable at Centerpoint Church.
Marisa Penalozza
It's a beautiful morning in Orem, sunny with a light breeze. But as people file into the evangelical church, the air feels heavy.

Texas Republican Congressman Michael McCaul tells ABC News he's leaving Congress.
Pastor Mike Smith
It's been an honor to serve for over two decades in the Congress. I'm looking now for a new challenge.
Luke Garrett
This comes just days after fellow Texas GOP Representative Morgan Luttrell announced his departure from Capitol Hill. McCall is the former chairman of the Homeland Security and Foreign affairs committees and known as a defense hawk. On Sunday, he called on President Trump to get tough on Russian President Vladimir Putin. McCaul says he thinks Trump is, quote, waking up to this fact.
Pastor Mike Smith
Don't think he's playing fair. I think he's manipulating the president as a KGB officer would.
Luke Garrett
With a tight margin in the house, McCaul says he's going to serve the remainder of his term. Luke Garrett, NPR News, Washington.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said this weekend that Ukraine's security service struck a major oil terminal in Russia. He says it was an attempt to weaken what he calls the Kremlin's War Machine. NPR's Joanna Kakis has a report from Kyiv.
Joanna Kakissis
Speaking in a video address on Sunday, Zelensky claimed Ukrainian forces damaged the Russian oil terminal in Primorsk, the largest on the Baltic Sea. We have significantly restricted Russia's oil industry, and this significantly restricts the war, Zelensky said. He added that Russia's oil, gas and other energy resources fuel the Kremlin's war literally and economically. His comments come after a Russian drone violated the airspace of Romania, which borders Ukraine. It's the second time in a week that Russian drones have violated the airspace of NATO countries. Ukraine is urging its allies to further sanction Russian oil and those who buy it. Joanna Kakissis, NPR News.

Cave and you're listening to NPR News. Vaccinations are now underway in Congo, where an outbreak of highly contagious Ebola began earlier this month. Congo's health minister says at least 16 people have died so far, and there are 28 confirmed cases, including four health care workers. A single dose vaccine has been approved in Australia to help protect koalas against a deadly disease. NPR's Chandelyse Duster has more.

Researchers at the University of the Sunshine coast in Australia say they have created a world first vaccine for koalas that will prevent infection and death from chlamydia. The bacterial infection can cause blindness and infertility in koalas. It is also a leading cause of death in the marsupials. Chlamydia can be spread in koalas in multiple ways, including during mating and birth. Sam Phillips, a senior researcher at the university, says a study found that the vaccine decreased chlamydia deaths and reduced signs of the disease during a koala's breeding age by at least 65%. Australian regulators have the vaccine for production and use in the country. Shondalise Duster, NPR News.

The latest in the Dream Slayer movie franchise made a big splash at North American box offices this weekend. With $70 million in ticket sales, that makes it the biggest domestic opening ever for an anime film. The movie also sold $178 million of tickets internationally. The conjuring Last Rites, meanwhile, came in second, earning $26 million at North American theaters. And the last Downton Abbey movie brought in 18.1 million. Do good enough for third place. I'm Dale Willman, NPR News.
