Live from NPR News, I'm Dale Wilman. President Trump is calling on NATO member states to collectively stop buying Russian oil exports. In a post to social media, Trump arg such moves could quickly force an end to Russia's war in Ukraine. From Moscow, NPR's Charles Maintes reports.
Charles Maynes
Trump called for a collective NATO ban on Russian oil, arguing some member states continued purchase of Russian crude was undermining NATO's bargaining power over Moscow. NATO member Turkey is the third largest buyer of Russian oil after China and India. Trump also called on alliance members to impose steep tariffs on China up to 100% so long as Beijing's purchases of Russian petroleum continue to help fund the war. It comes just days after an incursion by Russian drones drones into Poland's airspace, an incident that alarmed most NATO members but Trump dismissed as possibly an accident. It also comes as Trump led peace efforts have stalled with the Kremlin on Friday saying U S backed negotiations between Russia and Ukraine were now on pause. Charles Maynes, NPR News, Moscow.

President Trump's announcement that he'll send National Guard troops into Memphis is continuing to receive pushback. On Friday, Trump said the state's governor and the mayor of Memphis were both happy about the decision. But Mayor Paul Young, who's a Democrat, says that he politely disagrees.
Mayor Paul Young
That was an overstatement. I am focused on the resources, FBI, dea, atf. Those are the things that I believe will truly help us be able to support law enforcement and reduce violent crime. I do not support the National Guard.

And Young said that if the Guard is deployed by the Trump administration, he hopes that the Guard will strengthen the city and not be a distraction from ongoing law enforcement efforts.
