Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jeanine Herbst. The suspect in the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk is due in court this week. Tyler Robinson is being held without bond. Meanwhile, Kirk's church in Phoenix held its first Sunday service since his death last week. NPR Sarah Ventri has more.

Sunday morning's church service at Dream City Church in Phoenix emphasized the impact of Kirk's life and the ways in which this church community, which has strong links to Kirk's Turning Point usa, plans to continue his legacy. There was an open forum for people to ask questions and conservative commentator Brandon Tatum was also in attendance.

Before departing the U.S. rubio reiterated President Trump's displeasure with Israel's attack in Qatar, a strategic ally. Obviously we're not happy about it. He said he talks with Israel would be about moving forward and would not include Israel's latest offensive in Gaza City, where the military has ordered the metropolis cleared and has been leveling high rises and collapsing a large number of buildings. Anti smoking advocates are dismayed at the lack of discussion of smoking and nicotine addiction in the list of recommendations for addressing chronic disease. Brian King, until recently headed the Food and Drug Administration's tobacco control division and is now an executive at the center for Tobacco Free Kids attempting to combat.

All eyes will be on the Federal Reserve this week as the central bank is widely expected to cut interest rates. This is NPR News. China is launching two probes targeting the US Semiconductor sector ahead of trade talks in Spain. China's Ministry of Commerce says one is an anti dumping investigation into certain analog IC chips imported from the US the other is an anti discrimination probe into US Measures against China's chip sector. This as Treasury Secretary Scott Besant and his Chinese counterpart are set to meet in Madrid this week for talks on trade, national security and the ownership of TikTok. It's the latest in a series of negotiations aimed at reducing trade tensions and postponing higher tariffs on each other's goods. Comedian Nate Bargetzi will emcee the Primetime Emmy Awards tonight. The ceremony airs live on CBS and Paramount. NPR's Mondalit del Bargo has more.
