Prosecutors in Utah say they expect to formally charge the suspect this week. The 22 year old was taken into custody on Thursday and is being held without bail. New York's Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul is endorsing Zoran Mamdami in the New York city mayor's race. NPR's Brian Mann reports the party has been slow to back the candidate because of his positions on Israel and law enforcement.
Brian Mann
Mamdani, who describes himself as a Democratic socialist, won the Democratic mayoral primary in June, but some top Democratic leaders have kept their distance. Mamdani has been sharply critical of Israel's war in Gaza and once endorsed the idea of defunding the nypd, though he's walked back that stance. In her endorsement, Governor Hochul said she and Mamdani had our disagreements, but Hochul said Mamdani wants a safe, affordable New York City. Hochul also commended Mamdani, who's Muslim, for meeting with Jewish community leaders across the city. Her endorsement drew fire from Republican leaders who've sought to portray Mamdani as extreme. Mamdani faces current Mayor Eric Adams, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, and Republican Curtis Sliwa on the November ballot. Brian Mann, NPR News, New York.

It's the second time in a week that Russian drones have violated the airspace of NATO countries. Ukraine is urging its allies to further sanction Russian oil and those who buy it.
