Details@capitalone.com Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Luis Schiavone. President Trump is expected to meet with top congressional leaders at the White House today. Lawmakers are facing a critical deadline tomorrow to pass a temporary spending bill. NPR's Barbara Sprunt reports. If Congress fails to reach a bipartisan compromise, the government could partially shut down at midnight.
Barbara Sprunt
The meeting is somewhat of a redo. Top Democrats were supposed to meet with President Trump last week to negotiate a path forward and avoid a shutdown, but the president canceled that meeting. The Oval Office meeting today will come hours before the Senate is expected to vote on a House passed continuing resolution to fund the government through late November. Senate Democrats previously blocked that from advancing. They want to negotiate with Republicans to address expanded Affordable Care act subsidies that expire at the end of the year. Republicans are pushing to pass the stopgap bill first and then negotiate. Barbara Sprent, NPR News, Washington.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is at the White House at this hour. He's expected to talk to President Trump about a potential framework to end fighting with hamas in Gaza. NPR's Daniel Estrin has details on the reported shape of Netanyahu's plans.
Daniel Estrin
I spoke with a person briefed on the proposal who confirmed to me some of the main points. It calls on Hamas to release all 48 of its remaining hostages, living and dead, up front. And then it calls for a gradual process where a multinational Arab and Muslim peacekeeping force would enter Gaza and Israeli forces would withdraw. Now this is a plan that Trump presented to leaders of Arab countries in New York last week. It is the most serious effort yet since Trump entered the office to end the war and to chart a post war Future for Gaza.

NPR's Daniel Estrin. After a stormy appearance at the United nations last week, Israel is increasingly isolated after losing support from many previous nations aligned with its strategies. The FBI is leading the investigation into yesterday's deadly attack at a church in Grand Blanc, Michigan. At least four people were killed. Eight others were injured by a gunman who crashed his pickup into the building. Steve Carmody with Michigan Public has more.

The attack took place during Sunday morning services at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan, about 60 miles north of Detroit. 40 year old Thomas Jacob Sanford allegedly drove his truck through the church's doors and began shooting and authorities say deliberately set the church building on fire. Sanford died after exchanging gunfire with police. Reuben Coleman is the acting special agent in charge of the FBI Detroit field office.

Trump cited protests against immigration enforcement there and demonstrations at a single ICE facility. Both federal agents and protesters have been injured during encounters there. Oregon Governor Tina Kotek called the move an abuse of power and the state's attorney general has filed suit. As daylight decreases, more people notice signs of seasonal affective disorder. NPR's Allison Aubrey reports. Bright light therapy might help, though the.
