Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Ryland Barton. President Trump has unveiled what he calls a comprehensive plan to end the war in Gaza and promote broader peace in the region. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he accepts the plan. Trump says he's now waiting on Hamas. NPR's Michelle Kellerman reports.

The 20 point plan calls for the release of all hostages within 72 hours and says Gaza will be a, quote, de radicalized terror free zone. The UN and international aid groups will be able to bring in food and humanitarian goods into Gaza, which will be run by a new transitional authority. President Trump says the people of Israel want this war to end.

Backed by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, a Republican, while Memphis Mayor Paul Young, a Democrat, has been less enthusiastic. Still, Mayor Young created a website to inform the public on what to expect, saying that the national guard, deputized by U.S. marshals, will serve as extra, quote, eyes and ears to support local police. It said the Guard will not make arrests, issue warrants or wear masks. Memphis has one of the highest violent crime rates in the country, according to FBI data, although it has fallen dramatically in the past year. Over the weekend, the Pentagon also called up 200 National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon, after Trump called the Pacific Northwest port city war ravaged. Kat Lansdorf, NPR News.

Memphis officials say search crews did not find any additional bodies inside a Mormon church in Michigan, where a Maine veteran opened fire and set the building ablaze, killing four people on Sunday. Police say everyone is accounted for after the attack. Investigators say they're trying to determine what motivated Thomas Jacob Sanford to ram his pickup truck into the church in Grand Blank Township and then start shooting.
