Live from NPR News in New York City, I'm Dwahlisai Kowtow. President Trump has authorized 300 National Guard troops to Chicago, where the Department of Homeland Security says officer. A neighborhood on the south side of the city shot an armed woman and injured her on Saturday. Chicago police say the incident is now under federal investigation. At the scene of the shooting, protesters gathered in the crowd of is Alderman Byron Sigjo Lopez, standing at Chicago's 25th Ward.

U.S. secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem said on social media that she's sending additional special operations to control the scene in Chicago's Brighton park neighborhood. As Israel and Hamas inch towards a peace agreement, there's cautious optimism that the Trump administration's proposal could could finally bring an end to the war. But the conditions in Gaza remain desperate. NPR's Michael Levitt reports.

Humanitarian organizations say that the need for aid corridors to the besieged territory remains urgent. It's been over a month since famine was declared in Gaza. UNICEF spokesperson James Elder says the need goes beyond food supplies. He spoke to NPR from Gaza, where he has been visiting hospitals.

Populist ex Prime Minister Andre Babi has made a political comeback with his party winning more than a third of the votes cast in a two day election for Parliament. Babish, who even adopted a MAGA like red baseball cap with white lettering for the campaign, has pledged to reduce his country's support for Ukraine and to oppose some EU policies on migration and environmental protection. Center Right Prime Minister Petr Fiela conceded defeat but vowed continued activism. I will not give up the fight against populism and extremism, he told supporters. I'm not giving up the fight. A Czech online research group found hundreds of anonymous TikTok accounts were getting millions of views for pro Russian anti government posts in the run up to the vote. This is npr. A candlelight vigil was held outside of Dallas City Hall Friday evening to mourn the loss of two migrants killed in last month's shooting outside the Dallas ICE field office. From member station K E R A, Priscilla Rice reports the message was to remember the victims.

The vigil included remarks from community activists, a prayer and candles to honor the victims. Norlan Guzman Fuentes from El Salvador died in the attack, and Miguel Garcia Hernandez from, died almost a week later from his injuries. Immigration attorney Eric Cedillo represents Garcia's wife. He told the audience much of the focus following the shooting has been on law enforcement, but the reality of this.

In London, police there say nearly 500 people were arrested during Saturday's demonstration in Trafalgar Square aimed at showing support for a pro Palestinian group that has been proscribed and banned by the government. In July, the UK Government identified Palestine Action as a terror organization after people associated with the group sprayed red paint on military aircraft. City officials had urged protesters not to attend the rally in central London, especially days after a deadly attack at a synagogue in Manchester. This is NPR News from New York.
