Live from NPR News. In Washington, I'm Shea Stevens. Air travelers are now facing delays as the partial government shutdown drags ON as as NPR's Giles Snyder reports, staffing shortages at airport control towers are increasing.

The list of airports reporting staffing shortages is widening. The FAA adding Houston and Dallas to the list. That includes Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia, as well as control centers in Atlanta and the Dallas Fort Worth area. In Nashville, the FAA implemented a ground stop Tuesday evening due to insufficient staff. According to the flight tracking website Flight Aware, there were more than 3,000 delays on Tuesday.

Giles Snyder reporting. Texas National Guard troops have arrived in Chicago under orders from President Trump. Houston Public Media's Andrew Schneider reports that similar developments in San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, are on hold for now.

Trump has federalized the Texas National Guard by invoking Article 1 of the US Constitution. It allows Congress to summon the militia to suppress a rebellion or where the president is unable to enforce US Law with regular forces. Law professor Jeffrey Corn of Texas Tech says that rationale may be difficult to argue in court.

President Trump is predicting that Canadian snowbirds and tourists will return to the United States. Canadians visiting the U.S. canadian visits to the U.S. have dropped 23% in protest of Trump's policies. In an Oval Office meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney, the president promised fair trade with Canada. The U.S. has imposed higher tariffs on a range of Canadian products, including lumber, steel and aluminum. Vigils were held in several US Cities in the US And Israel Tuesday, marking the second anniversary of the war in Gaza. NPR's Anas Baba has more.

For many here in Gaza, time hasn't moved forward. It stands still under the weight of rubble, famine and the endless wait for a ceasefire. Hamis Al Helu is among hundreds of thousands of Palestinians forcibly displaced to southern Gaza by Israel. His daughter, brother and sister are among the more than 67,000 Palestinians that Gaza's health ministry has recorded killed by Israel in the war. Al Heli also lost his home. It was reduced to rubble by Israel's military in the war. He says he hopes there is a chance for permanent ceasefire under President Trump's plan so those still alive in Gaza have a chance at life again.

To check, a tropical storm watch is posted for Guadeloupe and neighboring islands. Short bouts of a few minutes of moderately intense movement a couple of times a day is linked to improved cardio respiratory fitness, which is the ability of the heart, lungs and blood vessels to deliver oxygen to the muscles and sustain aerobic activity. Researchers studied adults who'd been sedentary and tracked progress over a few days up to 12 weeks, explains study author Miguel Rodriguez of University of Oviedo in Spain.

Some 1,000 hikers, guides and other staff have been rescued after being stranded on the China side of Mount Everest. The group got caught in a blizzard late Saturday near the eastern slope of the summit, according to China's Xinhua News Agency. They stayed in tents pitched at an altitude of nearly 5,000ft, with some of them suffering hypothermia. The scenic area of Mount Everest is now temporarily closed. This is NPR News.
