Hamas militants fired rocket propelled grenades and directed sniper fire at Israeli troops in southern Gaza outside the town of Rafah. This is according to an Israeli military official. Speaking on condition of anonymity. Israel responded with airstrikes. According to Israeli and Arab media reports, both Israel and Hamas have accused each other of ceasefire violations since the truce came into effect October 10th. However, this appeared to be the most serious clash so far. Israeli troops still control just over half of Gaza's territory, though they're mostly in open areas outside cities and towns. I have made a very concise decision to apply that for good and use that to make amends with my community, with my friends, with my family and those who I have left a sour taste in their mouth and hopefully one day get my critics to at least appreciate that I've turned around and done better with my life.

Trump commuted the former congressman's prison sentence last week, calling the punishment excessive. Nearly a dozen states in the Central and Southeast US are on alert for severe weather today. NPR's Matt Bloom reports. A large storm system could affect the Appalachians and Mid Atlantic regions.
Matt Bloom
A major cold front brought wind and tornado watches to millions of people from East Texas to as far north as Ohio and Michigan. Local authorities reported quarter sized hail in several states, including Missouri, and thousands of power outages from 70 mile per hour wind gusts in Louisian, Mississippi, Illinois and Indiana, but no major injuries. Forecasters warn the storm is expected to bring more strong winds and rain with the potential for flash flooding as it moves northeast toward the Appalachians and parts of the Gulf Coast. Matt Loom, NPR News.

Protests took place in several cities across the country, including Casablanca, Morocco's largest city and economic hub. The demonstrators issued demands for better schools and hospitals, with some calling for the resignation of the country's prime minister, Aziz Akhanouj. Some protesters also issued calls for a boycott of the Africa cup of Nations, a major soccer tournament set to take place in the country later this year. Since last month, Morocco has witnessed a series of youth led protests that have drawn inspiration from similar youth protests in nations like Nepal.
