The new Gaza ceasefire between Israel and Hamas is facing its first major test. Israel says the beginning of humanitarian aid has been HAL halted this after Hamas militants killed two Israeli soldiers. Israel then launched a series of strikes into Gaza, but later said it resumed the ceasefire. NPR's Greg Myre has more from Tel Aviv.

According to the Israeli military, Hamas militants fired rocket propelled grenades and directed sniper fire at Israeli troops in southern Gaza near the town on the border Rafah. Now this is where Israel says its troops were killed. The Israelis say they also came under fire in northern Gaza.

Health officials in Gaza say at least 36 Palestinians were killed. An Egyptian official involved in the ceasefire negotiations said discussions are underway to de escalate the situation. Monday is the deadline for a handful of universities to agree to a list of commitments that align with the Trump administration's political priorities. This in exchange for preferential access to federal funding. NPR's Elyse Narodny has more.

The White House sent the so called Compact for Academic Excellence in higher education to nine colleges, both private and public, on October 1st. It would require schools to freeze tuition for five years, limit international student enrollment and require standardized tests for admissions, among other things. The University of Virginia is among the schools to decline. UVA's interim president said they wanted no special treatment when it comes to federal funding. On On Friday, the White House held a meeting with college leaders to discuss the Compact on X. Education secretary Linda McMahon said the meeting was positive and an important step. The White House did not provide details on how they will incorporate feedback or make changes to the compact. Alyssa Nadworny, NPR News.

In Hong Kong, aviation officials are on the scene after two airport workers are reported to have died when a 747 cargo plane operated by the Turkish based Act Airlines hit the vehicle they were in and skidded off a Runway into the South China Sea. Convicted former Congressman Jorge Santos says he's humbled by his experience being locked up, but he says he's unconcerned by those who are critical of him or President Trump for commuting much of his seven year prison term on fraud and identity theft charges. Appearing on CNN less than 48 hours after being released, Santos said Trump would have been criticized yet if he issued a pardon to Jesus Christ as he was on the cross. Limp Biscuit says Sam Rivers, the bass player and a founding member of the nu metal band, died Saturday. He was 48 years old. There's no word on the cause of death. NPR's Chandelyse Duster reports.
