Trump has called for both Russia and Ukraine to freeze the war along current battle lines, a proposal that would reward Russia with Ukrainian territory but also, Trump argues, end the fighting. Yet speaking in in Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the plan failed to address the root causes of the conflict and would leave, in his words, Nazis in control of much of Ukraine. Lavrov said Russia continues to support an agreement reached by the two leaders during their last meeting in Alaska, when Trump abandoned demands for a short term ceasefire in favor of Putin's calls for a lasting peace. Critics argue that nuance has allowed Russia to draw out peace negotiations even as it continues attacks on Ukraine. Charles Maynes, NPR News, Moscow.
